Lance Stroll has always been a divisive character on the Formula 1 grid.

Since his debut with Williams in 2017, Lance Stroll has gone on to secure three podiums and a single pole position during his 189 Grand Prix starts.

He will join an exclusive club of drivers to reach the 200 mark in 2026 with an Aston Martin team who have ambitions to win the championship during the upcoming regulation changes.

Stroll has had some brilliant teammates, including Sebastian Vettel and, currently, Fernando Alonso.

There have always been question marks about the Canadian’s ability, especially as Alonso outqualified him for every single Grand Prix in 2025.

Guenther Steiner has told Stroll he wouldn’t beat Alonso even if he were 50 years old, and that F1 fans have reacted to his suggestion.

Using F1Oversteer’s new TalkingPoints feature, fans were asked whether Stroll might be the most underrated driver on the grid because many only associate him with being on the grid with his father, Lawrence Stroll, being Aston Martin’s chairman.

It’s safe to say that many fans don’t think he’s still on the grid based purely on merit.

F1 fans tell Aston Martin that they need to replace Lance Stroll

Interacting with F1Oversteer’s TalkingPoints discussion point on Stroll being F1’s most underrated driver, one user said: ‘Stroll had promise until he went to Aston, then he started to get the reputation he has. He should get demoted to a lower team.’

Another user said: ‘What about all the young drivers that he is keeping out of a seat at AM?’

‘Lance Stroll does not deserve a seat in a top team, he doesn’t even try to look interested,’ commented another fan, while one comment read, ‘His manner and attitude do not suit F1.’

One response said: ‘Totally rubbish, his Dad should get him out before they seriously have a go at any Championship because with Lance, you will be fixing the car more instead of driving the car, Alonso is usually in the points, and Lance’s qualifying is shocking. He should walk away.’

Finally, one user made the important point, ‘He’s getting better, but maybe because of the car. If another driver was in it, eg, Piastri, who knows.’

Formula 1 fans rate Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll’s 2025 season out of 10

At the end of the 2025 season, F1Oversteer’s TalkingPoints asked fans to rate Stroll’s season out of 10.

The Canadian was ahead of Alonso during the first half of the season, although he also went on two runs of more than eight Grand Prix without scoring a point, not including Sprint Races.

He finished the season in 16th in the drivers’ championship, level on points with Red Bull struggler Yuki Tsunoda.

One fan suggested for his rating: ‘A maximum of 4. I only rate Franco Colapinto lower than Lance, but Colapinto has yet to do a continuous 24-race season.’

Another response said: ‘Stroll is hopeless at driving an F1 car. He can’t beat a 50-year-old, and usually, if he’s under any pressure, he crashes. Maybe he should try Formula E, as you can get away with a few bumps.’

‘3 at best…,’ said another comment. ‘He did show occasional hints of some talent in his time at Williams, but in his dad’s team, he knows the seat is safe and lacking enthusiasm and effort. He appears to just do the bare minimum.’

Another fan said, ‘2 out of 10. So many better drivers out there. Move over Lance,’ while the final response simply read, ‘1 out of 10, he should never have been granted a super licence in the first place!’
