How members of the Ferrari team reacted after their test in Monza could prove to be good news for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

So far in 2026, Ferrari have produced much-improved performances, with Leclerc finishing third in Australia and Japan, while Hamilton scored his first podium for the team in China.

During F1’s April break following the cancellation of races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Ferrari have been working around the clock to improve the SF-26.

Ahead of next week’s Miami Grand Prix, it has been reported that Ferrari are set to bring ‘at least half’ a new car as they look to bring the fight to Mercedes.

On Wednesday, the Scuderia held a testing day in Monza, putting a number of their new upgrades to the test.

It was noted that Ferrari were carrying out extra work on their famous Macarena wing, which could be introduced over the next few races.

How Ferrari staff reacted to Monza test ahead of Miami Grand Prix

As reported by Italian news outlet Motorsport Italia, Ferrari tested the Macarena wing and a Halo flap, but stated that some modifications were not visible and will only be revealed in Miami.

Meanwhile, during what was described as the ‘closed-door test’, some of the faces of Ferrari staff were described as ‘moderately cheerful’.

With Hamilton and Leclerc desperate for race wins, the fact that members of the Ferrari team have reacted positively to the Monza test could mean the upgrades are working as intended.

If that is to be true, Hamilton and Leclerc will be looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the SF-26 for the remainder of the season.

With that in mind, the true test will be whether they can get closer to the Mercedes duo of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell around the Miami International Autodrome.

Only four drivers have ever completed every Grand Prix lap in a season – Can anyone add their name to the list in 2026?

Ferrari told development of the SF-26 will be crucial for 2026

Aside from Ferrari, the likes of McLaren and Red Bull are also said to be bringing upgrades to Miami as they all look to challenge at the front of the grid.

Speaking recently to RacingNews365, former Ferrari driver Jean Alesi has warned that the development of the SF-26 will be crucial in the upcoming months.

He said: “It’s a long championship. It’s all about the development of the car, which is now better than most other cars, but slightly less than Mercedes.

“But they have competitors like McLaren, who have the same engine as Mercedes and have won the championship for the past two years. So it will be a difficult struggle in development.

“Don’t forget Red Bull. They have Max Verstappen… and Max is Max!”
