Charles Leclerc is one of the fastest drivers on the Formula 1 grid and one of only five Monegasque racers so far, so here is everything you need to know on the Ferrari star.
The Scuderia signed Leclerc up to join four-time Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel in the 2019 season. It was a rapid rise to one of the most coveted seats in all of motorsport, having only debuted in Formula 1 at the 2018 Australian GP for his sole campaign racing for Sauber.
Ferrari quickly promoted Leclerc after realising they had a true star in their grasp. He joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in March 2016, in a move which also yielded a test driver role for Haas. It even preceded Leclerc winning the 2016 GP3 and 2017 Formula 2 titles as a rookie.

Leclerc had enjoyed storied success during his go-karting days and continued to show real potential upon moving into single-seaters. He triumphed through various classes in go-karts from 2005 to 2013 with titles in Mini Kart, Minime, Cadet, KF3, Junior, KF2 and KZ2 classes.
His first go-karting title also came in 2005 with Championnat de France Regional PACA, Mini Kart honours. He won further titles in the Championnat de France plus the Trophee Claude Secq, Monaco Kart Cup, CIK-FIA World Cup, ERDF Masters Kart and WSK Euro Series, too.

Two wins in 14 races as a rookie in single-seaters further saw Leclerc end the 2014 Formula Renault 2.0 Alps season in second place. Another silver spoon followed in the famed Macau GP in 2015, too. Leclerc won his first single-seater title in GP3 with three wins racing for ART.
A move to Prema to graduate to Formula 1’s leading feeder series Formula 2 as it rebranded from GP2 would yield another championship as a rookie. Leclerc won seven of the 22 races to take the title by 72 points. He even sealed pole position for eight of the 11 Feature races.
Leclerc dedicated his pole position for the F2 Feature race at the 2017 Azerbaijan GP to his dad, Herve, as well. His father died just three days before the Monegasque wonderkid took pole by 0.568 seconds in Baku. Leclerc also won the race and finished second in the Sprint.
Herve Leclerc passed away after a long illness aged 54, whilst Charles Leclerc was 19 years old at the time. Herve was also a racer and competed in F3 through the 1990s. His passion fuelled Leclerc and his two brothers Lorenzo and Arthur’s passion for motorsport, as well.
The Leclerc family were also very close to the Bianchi family, with Jules Bianchi a friend and role model to Charles Leclerc. Jules Bianchi passed away due to injuries he sustained in the 2014 F1 Japanese GP during July 2015. The Frenchman was driving for Marussia at the time.
Leclerc also lost another close friend, Anthoine Hubert, on the weekend that the Ferrari star won his first Formula 1 race. The Monegasque triumphed at the 2019 Belgian GP a day after Renault-backed Hubert was involved in a crash during the Formula 2 Feature race at Spa.
