The Formula 1 driver market is set to go wild in 2024, but despite no announcement being made yet about his future, Lance Stroll is unlikely to play a part in any comings and goings.

Lance Stroll may only be 25 years old, but he will enter his 150th Grand Prix in China this year.

A report from Motorsport.com has suggested that while Stroll’s status hasn’t been made public, it doesn’t appear as though his father is about to make a very bold call.

Stroll’s F1 future safe despite lack of announcement

Going into 2024, three-quarters of the grid were entering the final year of their contracts.

Charles Leclerc kicked things off by announcing a multi-year extension with Ferrari and Lando Norris quickly followed him despite his old deal not ending until next year.

Then, the moment that shook the world of Formula 1, as it was confirmed that Lewis Hamilton would be switching Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025.

This means Carlos Sainz is the first driver who knows he will be moving on from his current team, although he’s likely to have plenty of options.

The vacant Mercedes seat is going to attract some interest, but aside from that, Aston Martin are suddenly one of the most interesting prospects for other drivers after the progress they made last year.

Fernando Alonso is out of contract at the end of the year and has been linked with replacing Hamilton.

Despite no announcement from Aston Martin yet, it looks like Lance Stroll will remain with the team for the foreseeable future.

Considering the gulf between him and his more experienced teammate in results last year, he might consider himself slightly lucky to reportedly be guaranteed a place on the grid for 2025.

Lawrence Stroll could have big decision to make on Lance one day…

The report from Motorsport.com suggests that aside from Max Verstappen and George Russell – outside of Ferrari and McLaren – Stroll is the only driver signed up for next season.

They admit that it’s for ‘obvious reasons’ that this is the case, while an announcement hasn’t been made public on his future even if Stroll is going to be with Aston Martin as long as his father is chairman.

It would be harsh to say that Stroll doesn’t deserve his place in Formula 1.

He’s earned a pole position in the past and several podiums while he won the Formula 3 title before joining Williams in 2017.

However, when you’re up against Fernando Alonso and with so many talented rookies unable to break into the sport – including Felipe Drugovich who won the F2 title in 2022 – there are going to be question marks over your position.

Stroll has admitted he needs to improve this season and entering pre-season testing fully fit after injuring both of his wrists last year is a bonus.

But considering Alonso scored all eight of Aston Martin’s podiums in 2023, he needs to make sure he’s sharing the responsibility of pushing the team up the Constructors’ Championship.
