Romain Grosjean has admitted that he’s not a fan of the rear bodywork of Aston Martin’s 2024 Formula 1 car.
After an incredible start to the 2023 season, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll struggled as their rivals brought better upgrades, but they ended the campaign on a high.
Romain Grosjean was speaking on his YouTube channel and reviewing each car’s launch ahead of this season.
He wasn’t particularly impressed with what he saw from last season’s fifth-best team, but then it’s a trend that many manufacturers seem to be following.
Grosjean gives verdict on Aston Martin’s 2024 F1 car
Aston Martin were one of the surprise packages of last season and at the beginning of the year Red Bull’s closest rival.
Fernando Alonso’s move from Alpine in the previous winter raised some eyebrows but he came away from the campaign with eight podium finishes.
Max Verstappen’s dominance prevented him from adding a 33rd race win to his collection but he came close on several occasions.
Alonso’s teammate Lance Stroll had a mixed campaign and although he impressed towards the end of the year, he couldn’t match his more experienced teammate’s level.
Now, Aston Martin are hoping they can build on that success in 2024, but Romain Grosjean has spotted something he doesn’t like about their car.

Every team – except Williams – has launched a version of their new cars, but they’ll be hiding a few aspects before testing starts in Bahrain on Wednesday.
They won’t have much time to make improvements before the season begins, but they will quickly find out if they’ve got anything wrong with their development.
Aston Martin looking to build on encouraging 2023
Speaking about the car, Grosjean said: “One thing that we noticed this year is the trend of the rear bodywork shape.
“It’s not the nicest in the world but it seems that pretty much every team has been running that shape at the back.”
Fernando Alonso is incredibly demanding and from the first moment he met his race engineer at Aston Martin, he knew what he wanted from the team.
That drive and experience would have been key to the improvements they made in 2023, but as Grosjean has now said, the direction Aston Martin and other teams have gone in for 2024 doesn’t necessarily look the best.
That won’t bother team principal Mike Krack if the car is quick though and they’ll be eyeing up McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes in the Drivers’ Championship.
Not only that, they need to convince Alonso that his long-term future should be with the team, especially after an enticing race seat at Mercedes suddenly opened up.
