Oscar Piastri has just missed out on winning his first Formula 1 title after an intense showdown at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Aussie driver could do little to help his cause, as Lando Norris claimed the crucial third place he needed on Sunday at the Yas Marina circuit.
Piastri needed a miracle at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with his teammate finishing no higher than sixth, and him winning the race. In the end, they were separated by just one position, which wasn’t enough.
LANDO NORRIS IS WORLD CHAMPION 🏆
What's your instant reaction to Norris winning the Drivers' Championship by one point?
In the end, McLaren sealed their first title double in 27 years, and team boss Zak Brown couldn’t have been much happier with their performance.
Piastri was furious after Silverstone after losing out on a victory due to a controversial penalty. He made a few mistakes, looking back, that cost him.
But, he’ll learn from them. Piastri has lost 47 points through mistakes, and heading into the 2026 F1 regulations, he’ll be looking for redemption.

Zak Brown thinks Oscar Piastri is a ‘future world champion’ after Lando Norris title win
Piastri’s team feel a sense of injustice at some of McLaren’s decisions this season, such as being asked to move over for Norris in Monza.
McLaren were ready to impose team orders on Piastri if they needed to, to guarantee beating Red Bull to the title.
It’s the first non-Red Bull or Mercedes title since 2009, when Jenson Button claimed his one and only title for Brawn.
Should Norris have been given a penalty for this overtake?
Yuki Tsunoda was given a five-second penalty for more than one change of direction, but Lando Norris didn't for overtaking off the track…
McLaren boss Brown has now made a prediction for Piastri’s future, but it won’t be doing much for him in this current moment.
“The traffic took a lot to get Charles out of our DRS,” he told Sky Sports F1. “The move [on] Yuki, maybe a little too aggressive, but a lot at stake. Great racing Laurent and Max, because you know if you’ve beaten Red Bull and Max, you’ve done a great job.
“He is a future world champion [Piastri], both our guys won seven races, drove brilliantly. They supported each other. It’s a cruel sport, things sometimes don’t go your way, out of your control. I’m excited to go racing with these two guys next year.”

Will Oscar Piastri be upset at McLaren for failing to win the 2025 F1 title?
Just a few months ago, Piastri held a 34-point lead over Norris. By the time they rocked up in Abu Dhabi, a 50-point swing had gone against him.
McLaren have a back-up if they lose Piastri, but it would be fair for him to be frustrated after some things went against him in 2027.
Finish the sentence: In 2027, Oscar Piastri will be driving for…
He might feel as though beating Norris isn’t on the cards at McLaren. He wants absolute fairness, but striking back will be difficult after losing a title he knows he should have won.
Red Bull will be hoping that their own second driver problem is solved soon, but Piastri could be an intriguing solution in the future, particularly if they lose their main driver.
