Logan Sargeant is under pressure to secure his Formula 1 future after failing to score points in his Williams halfway through the season.
The America is one of three drivers yet to score points this season, the others being Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu.
With Alex Albon seemingly scoring all of the four points so far, attention has turned to whether Sargeant will remain in his seat for the foreseeable.
Initially, it looked like Andrea Kimi Antonelli might replace Sargeant midway through the year at Williams after the FIA passed a rule change that allows 17-year-olds to obtain a Super Licence.
Now it appears they are looking to secure the services of another driver on the grid for next year, with two candidates reportedly on the shortlist according to journalist Joe Saward.
Williams have two candidates in mind for second seat in 2025
The F1 driver market has been a hive of activity in the last few weeks with both Kevin Magnussen and Esteban Ocon announcing their departures from Haas and Alpine respectively.
This means more free agents are available on top of those who were already there at the beginning of the year. The question of where Carlos Sainz will end up has been a hot topic since Ferrari announced they were replacing him with seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton in 2025.
Williams has previously been touted as an option for Sainz due to their Mercedes engine links, which have won three of the last four Grands Prix. Now the team is reportedly considering two options: Sainz and Valtteri Bottas.
According to Saward, the team is looking to find a ‘solution’ to their Logan Sargeant problem in the ‘next couple of weeks’ and than afterwards it will assess whether to continue with the American for the rest of the year.

Williams is a safer bet than other options for Carlos Sainz
Unless Sainz gets an offer from one of the teams higher up the grid, it is likely that his options to remain in F1 for next season lie at either Alpine, Williams, or Sauber.
In the last two races Alpine has shown zero pace, committed a number of tactical errors in qualifying and race, and had two retirements due to technical failures compared to one for all of their other rivals. It is not the most compelling pitch for Sainz.

Sauber appears to be going through a major management change ahead of the 2026 season when the full switch to Audi comes in, but while they suffer from a lack of investment they are likely to stay towards the back of the field.
Williams appears to be putting investment into its project to get its resources on par with Mercedes and Red Bull in the future. With the reliable Mercedes power units, it might offer the most competitive stop-gap for Sainz before the 2026 season.
