Williams Racing driver Franco Colapinto is a man in demand after making an incredibly bright start to life in Formula 1.
When Logan Sargeant was dropped by Williams after the summer break, Franco Colapinto wasn’t at the top of many people’s lists to replace the American.
A solid debut at Monza was followed up with an 8th-place finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix where Colapinto managed to outqualify teammate Alex Albon.
The 21-year-old then added to his tally in Austin, before struggling at a soaking wet race in Brazil.
Unfortunately for Colapinto, his fine form during his first six races was never going to lead to a race seat at Williams.
Team principal James Vowles has already secured a contract extension for Albon earlier in the year despite interest from other teams.
Carlos Sainz will join Albon at Williams after losing his seat at Ferrari to Lewis Hamilton.
This leaves Colapinto assessing his options with just three races to go this year, however, F1 Oversteer understands that one team are considering making an audacious bid to secure the Argentinian’s services.
Alpine could offer Jack Doohan as part of driver-plus-cash deal for Franco Colapinto
Two teams have been very closely linked with trying to sign Colapinto for 2025: Red Bull and Alpine.
Red Bull’s interest in Colapinto stems from the uncertainty around whether Sergio Perez is capable of improving his performance levels adequately next year to help the Anglo-Austrian team in the Constructors’ Championship.
Christian Horner’s team are set to finish below McLaren and Ferrari this year despite Max Verstappen looking set to win the driver’s title.
Red Bull could also sign Colapinto to place him at their sister team RB if they let Perez go and decide to promote Yuki Tsunoda or the more likely candidate Liam Lawson.
Alpine have also shown an interest in Colapinto despite confirming their line-up earlier in the season.

Pierre Gasly is set to continue driving for the French team for a third year and will be joined by Australian Jack Doohan.

However, F1 Oversteer understands that Red Bull are exploring a way of keeping Colapinto in F1, suggesting that their interest in him is serious.
On top of this, talk has emerged that Alpine could potentially make an offer to Williams that includes Doohan and an additional fee to sign Colapinto.
Whether a bid is eventually made that includes the Australian is yet to be seen and convincing Doohan that it’s the right step to take will be tricky considering he’s already got an F1 race seat lined up for next year.
Jack Doohan testing with Alpine ahead of 2025 Formula 1 debut
Doohan has been waiting on the sidelines at Alpine all season, combining his simulator work with being the team’s reserve driver during race weekends.
However, at the same time, he’s completed thousands of kilometres of testing as part of Alpine’s TPC project.

Doohan had some issues during a recent Pirelli tyre test although they were completely out of his control.
Gasly was asked to observe Doohan’s testing performances, with the team hoping to use the Frenchman as a benchmark to see what level they can expect when he takes to the grid next year.
Unfortunately for the Australian, the only thing working against him is Colapinto is showing on the track every week what he can do in a Formula 1 car.
