Lewis Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari will see him attempt to win an eighth title with one of the most successful teams in Formula 1 of all time.
It would be apt if he manages to achieve the feat in the red cars considering they are synonymous with Michael Schumacher, who won five titles with the team to add to his tally of seven world championships.
Hamilton has already started to prepare for the big transfer at the start of 2025, including learning Italian to integrate himself with the Maranello-based outfit. Sebastian Vettel has already warned Hamilton to expect a culture shock, having also made the switch from British teams.
Ferrari will reportedly grant Hamilton permission to stay in Enzo Ferrari’s house, something they haven’t done for any driver since Schumacher.
Discussing the story on the latest Unlapped podcast, journalist Nate Saunders has revealed why it will be ‘very special’ for Hamilton and how it will be used primarily for the Briton.
Lewis Hamilton to use ‘very special’ Enzo Ferrari house in Maranello
The house was previously used by Schumacher when he was racing with the team between the 1996 and 2006 seasons, where he was able to work while testing at the Fiorano race track.
Saunders believes Hamilton will be using it for the same purpose and to also help embed himself in the Ferrari culture.
“There is this beautiful house just outside the Maranello factory but it is off-limits to mere mortals like us. The only way to get access to it is to be signed by Ferrari,” said Saunders.
“Maranello’s importance has diminished because testing has been rolled back, but there is now a helipad next to the Micheal Schumacher plaza. So my theory on this is, Lewis isn’t going to be hanging around, he will be taking a chopper in on a Thursday.
“A lot of what is in that house has been kept the way it was and for Lewis that will be very special, but the fact that Schumacher will be associated. The key for Lewis is to embrace that for the Tifosi because so much about Ferrari is symbolism. It’s the icon. So it makes a lot of sense.”

Why Fiorano race track has a big connection to Michael Schumacher
Ferrari acquired the land in the 1960s at Fiorano and turned it into a race track that could be used for testing, then subsequently converted the farmhouse so he could see the cars circulating.
Even Ferrari personnel do not get the chance to go inside of the house, however there was a lot of association between Ferrari and Schumacher because of his days testing at the track.

The German would often finish races and fly back to Bolgonia airport, where he would then drive down to Maranello to participate in a test session at the track.
While Hamilton will not live there permanently, he is likely to use it as a base when he’s working with the team’s engineers.
