Sebastian Vettel sent Max Verstappen a heartfelt message after the Red Bull driver beat his record to be the first person to win 10 F1 Grand Prix in a row at the Italian GP.
That is according to De Telegraaf, which notes that Vettel moved to contact Verstappen after Sunday’s race at Monza. Verstappen cruised to his 10th-straight Grand Prix win after edging past Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz at the Italian GP. He won the race by six seconds to Sergio Perez.
But rising temperatures slowed Verstappen’s pace in the late stages as Red Bull told the 25-year-old to ease his attack. The Milton Keynes-based team wanted the Dutchman to lift and coast to not get near backmarkers, including Pierre Gasly, that cost him several seconds.

Verstappen beats Vettel’s consecutive F1 Grand Prix win record
Verstappen had enjoyed a cruise around the historic woodland setting before Red Bull took a cautious view near the end. But it would not deny him a record-setting win as Verstappen edged clear of Vettel to become the first Formula 1 driver to win 10 consecutive Grand Prix.
Vettel had won nine in a row during his 2013 title-winning season as the German became a four-time F1 champion with Red Bull. The 36-year-old dominated after an early-season fight to end the year by winning the last nine rounds of a 19-race season after the summer break.

No driver has denied Verstappen the Grand Prix win since April 30 in 2023 when Perez took the Azerbaijan GP. Red Bull have also won each of the 14 Grands Prix so far this season with Verstappen taking 12. They may even still enjoy a perfect year with eight rounds remaining.
What did Vettel message Verstappen after the 2023 Italian GP?
Vettel often discussed his respect for the record books throughout his Formula 1 career with Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Ferrari and Aston Martin. He also enjoyed a dominant run for Red Bull as the German took four consecutive driver’s titles between 2010 and 2013 with the outfit.

Verstappen is fast closing in on his third consecutive title this year after setting a new record for winning 10 Grand Prix in a row. And Vettel messaged the Dutchman after Sunday’s Italian GP to congratulate Verstappen on the record having already backed him to win many more.
Following the Grand Prix around Monza, Vettel messaged Verstappen to say that he is happy for the two-time F1 driver’s champion and that the Red Bull ace should continue to enjoy his success. He even also recently backed the Dutchman to win 12 or more Grand Prix in a row.
Vettel told Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko that he believes Verstappen can set a new record that should never be beaten. It is even possible that the Dutchman reaches 18 wins in a row in 2023 if he sees out the rest of this season unbeaten and without any reliability problems.
