What Adrian Newey was spotted doing at the British Grand Prix ahead of Red Bull exit

Red Bull Racing have been unable to replicate the dominance they experienced during the 2023 Formula 1 season.

They only failed to win a single race last season when Carlos Sainz came home to take the chequered flag at the Singapore Grand Prix.

In the first half of the 2024 campaign, there have already been six different winners and struggling Red Bull star Sergio Perez doesn’t look like he’s going to add to the pair of victories he achieved at the beginning of last year.

Change is coming to Formula 1 for the 2026 season with new regulations on the way.

However, Red Bull are going to go into the next ruleset without one of their most important assets: Adrian Newey.

The legendary designer announced at the beginning of the season that he would be leaving the team after two decades of unbelievable success.

Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel owe Newey an awful lot after winning seven titles between them thanks to the cars he’s worked on.

Ted Kravitz has spoken to Ted’s Notebook about what Adrian Newey was doing during the British Grand Prix.

While he’s not working on Red Bull’s Formula 1 cars any more, it appeared as though he was preparing for his next role that’s almost certainly going to be in the paddock elsewhere.

Ted Kravitz shares what Adrian Newey was doing during the British Grand Prix

Reflecting on Sunday’s race, Kravitz said: “I’ve got to tell you about Adrian Newey.

“Who amazingly is still coming to races, is amazingly still going around the Red Bull garage, looking at the car that he’s not in charge of anymore with his notebook and making notes about the Red Bull to take to wherever he’s going.

“And he’s on the grid sketching designs of what everybody else [is doing] and all the upgrades that every other team is bringing and thinking about, I’m going to take these.

“So clearly, whoever said that they think Adrian Newey is going to retire, err wrong.

“And he’s obviously going somewhere else because why would you be coming here and making notes about other people’s cars?

“So, wherever he goes, whether it’s Aston Martin, or Ferrari, or less likely now I think Williams, or Mercedes, or McLaren, he’s clearly still turning up in Red Bull gear preparing for his future job.

“I know he’s not allowed in Red Bull meetings anymore but I did think it was quite interesting that he is still around.”

Who could Adrian Newey be working for after he leaves Red Bull?

As Kravitz mentions, several teams on the grid would like to sign Newey up once his Red Bull contract ends.

Reports in Italy have suggested that Newey was negotiating the final details of a contract with Ferrari for next season.

However, journalist Craig Slater suggested Newey’s chances of joining Ferrari have diminished, which highlights the lack of certainty around his future.

Aston Martin are also interested in Newey and he has recently been given a tour of the team’s facilities which are improving at a rapid rate.

Team owner Lawrence Stroll is determined to make the manufacturer a leading force in the sport and securing Fernando Alonso’s future alongside being Honda’s sole partner from 2026 highlights his ambition.

Newey’s reported wage demands may rule out a move to Williams, who he previously worked for and won multiple titles with during the 1990s.

His next destination isn’t set to be known for at least another few months, but as Kravitz has suggested, it’s hard to not see him still involved in Formula 1 in the future.
