Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has shared the one change he would make to the Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2024.

Wolff was being interviewed after the race on Sky Sports F1 (19/11, 8:19am) following another disappointing race for his two drivers.

Both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton made contact with other drivers and had to recover from further down the grid to score minor points.

Russell looked quick enough to secure a podium but failure to spot Max Verstappen diving down the inside at turn 12 saw him pick up damage and a five-second time penalty.

His teammate Hamilton was caught up in the chaos of turn one on the opening lap before picking up a puncture trying to pass Oscar Piastri.

Mercedes will know they need to improve their form going into the final race in Abu Dhabi to stay ahead of a resurgent Ferrari.

The logistics of the race in Las Vegas make the back-to-back race on the other side of the world particularly tricky.

Toto Wolff has now shared the change he would make to the race in 2024 when Formula 1 returns to Las Vegas.

It was a very successful event in the end following the issues discovered in Free Practice 1 and might end up being the template for future events added to the calendar.

Sky Sports F1 journalist Ted Kravitz said: “If you could change one thing for next year, what would it be? Maybe the race timetable, the schedule of the timetable, it’s been pretty tough on everybody that’s been working, even though there’ve been very good reasons why they’ve held it so late in the day.”

Wolff replied: “I think I wouldn’t change a lot. I would change qualifying maybe, take it from midnight to like when the race started about 10 [pm].

“So, you could still have the roads open longer in Las Vegas and then have a dinner for the fans and then have qualifying.

“Other than that I thought it was a perfect event, I have nothing else to say.”

The change Wolff suggests to the start time of qualifying in Las Vegas in 2024 would be welcomed by the spectators at the track and the teams working there.

With practice finishing at close to 4 am on Friday, it’s made the race weekend an endurance event for all involved.

Next year, Vegas will be the start of a triple header alongside Qatar and Abu Dhabi at the end of the calendar.

That will test the team’s stamina even further and finishing qualifying just a couple of hours earlier will make a small difference.

F1 fans will already be looking forward to the sport returning to Sin City next year.
