The Belgian Grand Prix is the 13th round of the 2025 Formula 1 season, and there could be a few records broken.

Lando Norris will be looking to equal the points between him and teammate Oscar Piastri, now that there is an opportunity to do so during the Sprint race weekend.

Piastri missed out on a win at the British Grand Prix last time out, after he was penalised by the FIA Stewards for a Safety Car infringement.

Jolyon Palmer felt Piastri’s Silverstone penalty was harsh, while Martin Brundle thinks he saw a side in Piastri that he’s never seen and warned McLaren there could be ‘fireworks’ brewing in the title battle.

Amid the two title protagonists, there are also a few records that could be broken at Spa Francorchamps.

Max Verstappen could surpass Ayrton Senna with qualifying feat

Max Verstappen stands a chance of becoming the first driver to set the quickest time in qualifying, five times in a row if he’s fastest on Saturday.

Although it’s not a record for most poles in succession, Verstappen has still set the quickest time, having taken a penalty in last year’s session due to an engine component change.

Verstappen is currently equal to Ayrton Senna, having set the fastest time in the last four years. Senna achieved this feat between 1988 and 1991.

Fernando Alonso is one of the oldest and most experienced drivers in F1, which is why he is now close to breaking some older records that stood in years gone past.

At Spa Francorchamps, he could break Sebastian Vettel’s record for most racing laps completed in the Belgian Grand Prix if he manages to complete at least 41 laps.

Vettel currently holds the record at 622 laps, with Schumacher on 602 laps. Alonso is on 582 race laps completed, although the Spaniard has encountered his fair share of bad luck this season.

Alonso also joins Lewis Hamilton as they both make their 19th starts in the Belgian GP, a record for both drivers.

Sergio Perez currently holds the lap record around Spa Francorchamps

The fastest lap around Spa Francorchamps is currently held by Sergio Perez, who set it during the 2024 race in the RB21.

Red Bull decided to pit Perez on the second-to-last lap of the race, bolting on a set of Soft tyres in a bid to snatch points away from Lando Norris.

The ability to earn points for setting the fastest lap was removed for the 2025 season, after teams were using it to game the system by getting drivers outside of the points to pit and set the quickest lap.
