Formula 1’s championship fight is incredibly finely poised heading into the final six rounds of the season.
The next three weeks could go a long way toward deciding the winner of both the drivers’ and constructors’ crowns as upgrades are brought to the Red Bull and McLaren cars.
It’s a sign that both teams are aware that it is now or never for their title aspirations, and that sitting on the backfoot may leave them doomed after the first of two triple headers.
For Red Bull, it has been a while since they were a regular race-winning threat, so you could argue that the updates are most important for them, but what are they bringing to the Circuit of the Americas?

Red Bull will change ‘just about everything’ in COTA
The paddock has been aware for weeks that Red Bull would be bringing upgrades after the mini-autumn break to the United States Grand Prix.
It has been bookmarked as the key stage of the season where if things don’t improve, they will be left scraping the barrel to retain just one of their championships.

Speaking on the RacingNews365 F1 podcast, journalist Ruud Dimmers revealed that the team is bringing an effective B-Spec car to COTA.
“It’s starting to go six races finally, a little more than 50-point lead. Will it work [an upgrade] or will it not. The magical update from Red Bull.
“This is the moment in the season coming, maybe this weekend though everything can change in the next three weeks. They have just about everything I think, it is now becoming an RB20-B.”
What will Red Bull change on the RB20 for the rest of the 2024 season?
Dimmers among colleague Tom Coronel also pointed out that both the floor and front wing of the Red Bull will be upgraded.
It’s a major development for the Milton Keynes-based outfit who are bringing their car more in line with their papaya rivals.
The front wing has been a major talking point this season, with Mercedes and McLaren’s flex coming under fire, before being cleared by the FIA.

The understanding is that when the front wing bends, it increases efficiency and therefore top speed – an area where Red Bull have struggled this season.
If they can exploit and unlock more performance from that area of their car, expect to see Max Verstappen right back in the fight for victories again.
