Visa Cash App RB driver Liam Lawson will be delighted that he’s returned to Formula 1 for a triple-header.
There was a lot of pressure on Liam Lawson heading into the United States Grand Prix as he was replacing one of the sport’s most popular drivers, Daniel Ricciardo.
Ricciardo hadn’t lived up to his expectations on his return to F1, but there was no guarantee that Lawson would be able to immediately improve on his performances.
Lawson went into the weekend knowing he had a huge grid penalty coming, lifting some of the pressure on him to score points and beat Yuki Tsunoda on his second debut.

Alonso and Lawson enjoyed a fierce battle in the Sprint Race before the Kiwi achieved what many thought would be impossible in Sunday’s race.
Lawson raced through the grid from 19th by nailing his one-stop strategy to make up 10 positions and score two points on his return to the grid.

Speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast, reporter Ted Kravitz praised the 22-year-old’s performance.
Not only that but he pinpointed the moment that Lawson left his race engineer lost for words during Sunday’s Grand Prix.
It’s hopefully a sign of things to come for RB, and potentially Red Bull who will be monitoring his progress very closely.
The moment Liam Lawson left his RB engineer ‘lost for words’ at the United States Grand Prix
Talking about Lawson’s display at the Circuit of the Americas, Kravitz said: “I thought Liam Lawson was really kind of the story of the day, going forward and getting a couple of points from the back of the field and just looking at all of the stuff that you look at online, the team radio.
“Lawson’s engineer was lost for words, wasn’t he? He was like, I don’t have any words to say that.
“And Liam said, how did we do that? He said, well, you were just quick.
“So, you know, regretfully, if we have to ask and love Daniel Ricciardo as I do, did they make the right decision?
“Well, it seems on the basis of Austin that yes, they did, although I guess we’ll never know what Ricciardo would have been able to achieve.”
Over the team radio, as he crossed the chequered flag, Lawson said: “Holy s—, how did we do that?
All his race engineer Pierre Hamelin could say in reply was: “You were fast, this is how we did it.”
What Red Bull staff are now saying about Liam Lawson ‘behind the scenes’
The reason Red Bull decided to replace Ricciardo with Lawson before the end of the season because they wanted to assess which team he would be the best fit for in 2025.
If Lawson did a decent but unspectacular job, then giving him a full year at RB to race against Tsunoda would have made perfect sense.
However, Red Bull are under increased pressure to find a solution to the problem that Sergio Perez is creating.
The Mexican has been off the pace for far too long and has cost Red Bull a chance to win the Constructors’ Championship.
Red Bull staff are very excited about Lawson behind the scenes after just one race and all eyes are on how he performs in Mexico City and Brazil.
There’s no rush to decide Lawson or Perez’s future, however, they may need to act quickly if they want to try and sign Franco Colapinto for RB.
