Lewis Hamilton has newfound confidence coming into the 2026 season opener in Australia, as Ted Kravitz has noticed in the paddock.
Many fans and experts are backing the seven-time champion to bounce back under the new technical regulations this season. The previous era did not suit Hamilton’s driving style, and thus, the fresh changes are said to benefit him greatly.
What do you expect from Lewis Hamilton in the 2026 F1 season?
Ferrari failed to win a race in 2025, with Hamilton not scoring a podium for the first time in a calendar year. It was a nightmare by his own admission and he looked completely despondent throughout the year, but that seems to have dramatically changed.
Hamilton says his confidence is ‘even stronger’ coming into the 2026 season. Ferrari have begun listening more to his technical feedback and the SF-26’s innovations could give him a race-winning package.

Ted Kravitz notes Lewis Hamilton’s ‘amazing’ transformation with his demeanour at the Australian Grand Prix
Johnny Herbert thinks Hamilton will be ‘very strong’ in 2026 due to his mental capacity and how he can adapt to new changes. His demeanour seems to have had quite the positive shift, as Kravitz saw firsthand in the Australian GP paddock.
He said via Ted’s Podbook on Sky Sports’ The F1 Show: “Cast your mind back six months ago, or maybe a little bit more, when Lewis Hamilton was having some of the trials and tribulations and qualifying and maybe not getting the result he wanted in the race, we saw down Lewis, didn’t we?
“We saw negative Lewis and some things, they should look for another driver and stuff that none of us want to hear, none of his fans, none of Formula 1 fans want to hear. He is the GOAT after all.
“And then, a really interesting transformation seems to have happened over the winter.” Colleague Rachel Brookes then said: “Great attitude, great example as well,” to which Kravitz responded: “It’s amazing.”
Brookes added: “To wrap it up, throw it away and find something in you that means that you’re not going to let that happen to you again.”

Is Lewis Hamilton setting himself up for more failure at Ferrari in 2026?
A rejuvenated Hamilton, combined with Ferrari’s positive showing in pre-season testing, could be a strong package in 2026. However, not everyone agrees.
Nick Heidfeld thinks Charles Leclerc will beat Hamilton this season. While the Brit is making progress, he still has to get past his teammate, which is no easy feat at Ferrari.
Will Lewis Hamilton score over/under five podiums in 2026?
Or exactly five? Let us know in the comments!
The 41-year-old is determined to become F1’s first eight-time world champion and wants to walk away on his terms. There was constant speculation about his future in 2025, with exit clauses being in his contract in 2026, but Hamilton is committed to staying in the sport.
However, F1 insiders think Hamilton is ‘deluding himself’ and causing damage to his legacy by staying in F1 and trying to fight for the title. He has struggled to compete since his 2021 defeat to Max Verstappen, and he may not ever recover from it.
