More than half of the seats on the 2025 Formula 1 grid are confirmed and several other moves could be decided sooner rather than later.
The likes of Carlos Sainz and Esteban Ocon may already know their next move and that will continue the merry-go-round of teams and drivers as work continues behind the scenes in the paddock.
Ted Kravitz was speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast about another driver whose future is almost set in stone beyond 2024.
One of the most enticing seats still available on the grid next year is alongside Fernando Alonso at Aston Martin.
The Spaniard may be 42 years old but has already signed a contract extension that will take him into another set of new regulations.
Alongside him, Lance Stroll still hasn’t confirmed that he’ll continue beyond 2024 but Kravitz has a theory why a contract extension hasn’t been announced yet.

Ted Kravitz shares theory about why Lance Stroll hasn’t signed 2025 Aston Martin contract
Lance Stroll is a driver who is always under constant scrutiny among Formula 1 fans.
His junior record was impressive – albeit always driving for the strongest teams – and he’s been on the grid now for more than 150 races.
However, because his father Lawrence Stroll owns the Aston Martin team, there are always accusations that the only reason Stroll is on the grid is because of his family connection.
While Lawrence Stroll is very unlikely to sack his son, if Aston Martin want to win the championship one day, there are question marks over whether they can do that with Lance in the car.
They’ve already made one invaluable signing behind the scenes who is working on the 2026 car when Honda will become their exclusive power unit supplier.

Kravitz has now been talking about Stroll’s future and has shared why he’s not announced he’s staying with Aston Martin beyond this year even though he’s not expected to walk away at the end of the season.
The Canadian wants to prove that deserves his place on the grid even without his family’s influence at Aston Martin.

Talking about why Stroll hasn’t announced his new contract yet, Kravitz said: “No, he hasn’t. But then I don’t think that’s because he’s thinking about not driving.
“I think that’s just because he doesn’t want to give the impression that it’s just done because his dad is one of the people who owns the team
“You know, he earns his place through scoring points and he’s proud of his performances.
“And when he goes well, he’s, you know, an absolutely fantastic addition to that team. He’s a regular point scorer.
“So I think that’s more that he doesn’t want… He’s a modest man, Lance [Stroll] is, and he doesn’t want it to be… Well, of course, I’m here.
“He wants to be able to earn it. But yeah, I would imagine it’s also… Well, I’d say 100%.”
Lance Stroll is keen to quash rumours over his F1 future
The 25-year-old has never been the most outspoken driver on the grid but has moved to address speculation surrounding his future recently.
He said ahead of his home race in Canada if he intends to keep racing in F1, via the Formula 1 website: “Yeah, that’s where my head’s at, for sure. Seems to be a pretty popular question that I’ve been getting asked recently.
“It’s super exciting, everything that’s happening at Silverstone and the project with the team and how we’ve grown over the last few years.
“And we continue to grow, so it’s definitely in my mind to continue being a part of that.”
Stroll has shown flashes of exceptional talent but with so few seats on the grid, his position in the paddock will always be questioned unless he can regularly match or beat his teammate.
When you’re driving alongside double world champion Fernando Alonso that’s not an easy feat, but he looks set to have plenty more time on the grid to prove his credentials.
