Ross Brawn is one of the most successful team principals in the history of Formula 1.
He was in charge of Ferrari during Michael Schumacher’s most dominant period in F1, before setting up his own team in 2009 and winning the championship with Jenson Button before Mercedes took over.
After going on to become part of the Formula One Management team, Ross Brawn walked away from the sport in 2022 with an exceptional list of accolades.
Describe the head-to-head battle at Ferrari in 2025 in three words…
Ferrari won the drivers’ championship with Kimi Raikkonen in 2007, just after Brawn left, before securing the constructors’ title the following year.
However, the Scuderia haven’t won a championship since, despite hiring former world champions Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, and now Lewis Hamilton.
Ferrari insiders have concerns about Hamilton’s approach, but Brawn has backed him to be successful at his former team.
However, he’s warned Ferrari that they’ll need to make some changes to get the best out of the 41-year-old compared to last season.

Ross Brawn reveals the formula for Ferrari to unlock ‘vintage’ Lewis Hamilton next season
Brawn was interviewed by Sky Sports at the Autosport Awards on Wednesday evening.
He was asked about Hamilton having a ‘pivotal’ year at Ferrari, and it was put to the former Scuderia boss how tough it will be for him to turn it around and recover: “I think we’d all love for him to be successful.
“I mean, I’ve got a special place for Ferrari. I spent 10 years there, [and] I know how tough it is there.
“But, there’s always a fine line between a team gelling and not quite gelling, and it didn’t quite gel last year.
“But, I mean, if he gets incentives, if he seizes an opportunity, I think we’ll see a vintage Lewis.
“So, I’m hoping that happens!”
Ross Brawn gives his take on the 2026 engine ‘loophole’ Mercedes and Red Bull have discovered
Although pre-season testing for the 2026 F1 season hasn’t started yet, there’s already controversy surrounding the new cars.
The 2026 regulation changes have introduced brand new power units, and there’s already been rumours swirling that Mercedes and Red Bull have discovered a loophole.
Brawn will be all too aware of how a regulation change can shake up the pecking order in the paddock.
Who is the ‘master’ tyre expert currently on the Formula 1 grid?
The double diffuser that his Brawn GP team installed during the 2009 season was pivotal to Button’s success, and Ferrari were always at the forefront of innovation during his time in charge.
Brawn was asked about the potential engine loophole that Mercedes and Red Bull have found.
It was put to him that potentially the other teams have missed something, and he said: “Well, as has been described to me, it just sounds like a clever interpretation of the regulations.
“I don’t know enough about it anymore, but whenever new regulations come in, as we’ve seen in the past, there’s always someone who takes a clever interpretation, and that’s what’s happened.
“And of course for the other teams, the best form of defence is attack, so that’s what they’re doing!”
