Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has shaken the landscape of Formula 1 like never before and it’s likely a host of subsequent moves will follow.

With just over a month to go until it’s lights out in Bahrain, Formula 1 has been hit with the biggest transfer news it has been in a long time. On Thursday, it was announced that from the 2025 season onwards, Lewis Hamilton would be making the jump from Mercedes to Ferrari.

This is a move which will also lead to multiple other moves across the championship, with Carlos Sainz one driver who is directly affected. The Spanish Scuderia racer is set to make way for the arrival of Hamilton and therefore will be looking to find himself a new team for next year.

Another talking point which has created much discussion is Mercedes’ second seat and who they’re likely to get to replace the seven-time world champion.

With names like Sainz and Alex Albon being thrown around, one driver has now suggested he’s targeting a Mercedes move with a cheeky message to Mercedes fans worldwide.

Romain Grosjean drops F1 future hint

With the driver roundabout in full swing right now, former Haas and current NTT IndyCar Series driver Romain Grosjean has cheekily thrown his hat into the perverbial ring.

Taking to his Instagram account, Grosjean posted a photo of himself in Mercedes attire accompanied by the message which read, “Maybe time to give a phone call to Toto”.

The context behind this being that the Frenchman has yet to recieve a promised test in a Mercedes car after his F1 career ended.

We imagine this is mostly tounge and cheek, with little prospect of Grosjean replacing the elite driver but we also know that in this sport, you can never say never.

Who could replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes?

With Grosjean throwing his hat into the mix, who are the other options Mercedes are currently looking at? Well whoever joins is likely to join a George Russell led team with the Brit tipped to get the number one seat for 2025.

Sainz is the clear choice if Mercedes are keen to possibly even upgrade their line-up for 2025. This move would make sense given previous talks between the driver and team.

Another is Alex Albon who looks likely to be joining Red Bull however currently at Williams, Mercedes could have the advantage should they wish to make a move.

Fernando Alonso is also on the table, with his Aston Martin contract expiring at the end of this season. His arrival would mean Mercedes replace one world champion for another.
