Red Bull Racing are not looking seriously at promoting Yuki Tsunoda from AlphaTauri in the near future.

A report from The Athletic has answered some popular questions from fans as the summer break begins.

It wouldn’t be a normal Formula 1 season is there wasn’t some musical chairs within the Red Bull set-up.

Dutch driver Nyck de Vries didn’t even make it to the summer break before being replaced by Daniel Ricciardo.

De Vries failed to score a point during his ten-race stint with AlphaTauri and only finished ahead of Yuki Tsunoda twice.

In the main Red Bull team, it’s hard to imagine Max Verstappen being able to do a better job.

He’s won eight races in a row and would need to have a monumental collapse not to win another Drivers’ Championship.

His teammate Sergio Perez started the season well, but before Sunday’s race in Spa, hadn’t finished in the top two since Miami.

It’s unlikely Red Bull are considering Perez’s future right now, but if they were, Tsunoda is still unlikely to be his replacement.

The 23-year-old is performing well in a poor car and has scored all of AlphaTauri’s points this year.

His real challenge for the second half of the season is outperforming his much more experienced new teammate.

Red Bull not considering Tsunoda in near future

The report from The Athletic suggests that indications from Red Bull have always pointed towards Tsunoda not being considered seriously for the second seat in the team in the near future.

That could change next year, but only if he can outdrive Ricciardo is a already a known quantity at Red Bull.

The pressure is on Tsunoda going into next month’s race at Zandvoort and beyond.

Not because he’s done anything particularly wrong, but that’s the position any driver in the Red Bull set-up is always in.

Christian Horner admitted before Ricciardo’s return that impressive youngster Liam Lawson wasn’t considered to replace De Vries.

A high bar has been set to earn a promotion at Red Bull, although following in Max Verstappen’s steps was almost going to be virtually impossible.
