Red Bull looking to break under-discussed streak at Austrian GP several teams have failed to in 2026
So far this season, no driver or team has done well at their home race. It has been a dire experience for any driver or team to make the most of their home race.
Going back to the first race of the season in Australia, Oscar Piastri crashed his McLaren before the race even started, which kept him from participating in the race.
Just a few races later at the Japanese Grand Prix, which served as the home race for Honda – the engine suppliers for Aston Martin, things didn’t get any better.
Lance Stroll couldn’t finish the race due to his engine issues, while Fernando Alonso could only manage a P18 finish while trying to curb the disastrous vibration issues from the Honda power unit.
Going over to the Miami Grand Prix, it was the first race in America for F1 debutants Cadillac, who could only manage a P16 and P18 finish thanks to Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
Lance Stroll entered the Canadian Grand Prix in his hometown of Montreal hoping to put up a strong showing, but only managed a P15 showing, the second-worst finish on the day.
For Charles Leclerc, a return to Monaco ended in disaster, as he got bumped off pole position by Kimi Antonelli in qualifying, and his race ended early due to a crash.
And lastly, Fernando Alonso entered the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix knowing it could be his last race at the track, but wasn’t able to finish the race due to an engine issue.
This curse is what Red Bull have to try and overcome, as not a single driver or team have managed to deliver a strong performance at their home race.

Red Bull’s season could see massive turning point at Austrian Grand Prix
Red Bull know that their season has not gotten off to a good start at all. This is why a strong performance in Austria is so important for them.
And with Max Verstappen’s Red Bull future up in the air, the pressure for the team heading into the weekend is through the roof.
Isack Hadjar has demanded some big changes be made to the RB22 heading into the weekend, but it is unlikely that the car will be tailored to his preferences over Max Verstappen.
Regardless of the motivation from both drivers heading into the weekend, Red Bull will be hoping for a strong performance from them.
