Ralf Schumacher has suggested that Kimi Antonelli will become a Ferrari driver in the future.
Since the Chinese Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli has dominated the headlines as he claimed victory for the first time as a Formula 1 driver for Mercedes.
The Italian driver made his debut in Formula 1 as a Mercedes driver in 2025 after graduating from Formula 2. However, in his rookie season, he did not claim a race win, but did feature on the podium on three occasions.
But after claiming pole position on Saturday afternoon at the Chinese Grand Prix, Antonelli went on to secure his first victory in dominant fashion as he beat his teammate, George Russell by five seconds.
With Antonelli’s contract with Mercedes expiring at the end of the 2026 season, there have been suggestions about his future with the team.

Ralf Schumacher believes Kimi Antonelli will join Ferrari
During an interview with F1-insider.com, Ralf Schumacher revealed that he believes Antonelli will become a Ferrari driver ‘in the distant future’.
The former Formula 1 driver suggested that Antonelli becoming a Ferrari driver ‘would be a dream’ for the Italian people.
Schumacher said, “But, it looks like this at the moment, and I believe that at some point, he can, will, and perhaps should sit in a Ferrari if he really continues to develop like this. That would be a dream for the Italians.
“If an Italian were to win again in a Ferrari, I think he’d be immediately invited to the Pope’s court, even though he’s American. So, yes, it will happen sometime in the distant future.
“What he’s doing, as I said, is wonderful. A nation is waiting hungry again, just like it was with Max, the Dutchman who suddenly dominated Formula 1 and still does, to a certain extent. And that’s why, yes, that naturally has an impact on the country.”

Toto Wolff reveals the one ‘danger’ in signing Kimi Antonelli
After Antonelli’s first win for Mercedes, Toto Wolff was asked about the decision to sign the Italian driver for the 2025 season and whether there were dangers in his decision.
Initially, when Wolff decided to replace Lewis Hamilton with a teenager, many within the Formula 1 paddock questioned his decision and thought it was the wrong move from Wolff.
However, he was proven right at the Chinese Grand Prix, and after Antonelli won, he was able to cement his place in the title fight against Russell.
Wolff said, “I never saw the decision to sign him straight away for Mercedes as a risk. The only danger with young drivers is that they may not be ready to handle the pressure of Formula 1”.
