Racing Bulls fans love the special livery the team are planning to use for next weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix. The team revealed the one-off colours in a social media post on Saturday.

The traditional blue has given way to a crimson red, making the car reminiscent of the Japanese flag. The team say the car is inspired by the ‘cherry sakura’ flavoured, ‘Spring Edition’ Red Bull energy drink.

Racing Bulls aren’t the only team making changes for Japan. Haas, who have a close partnership with Japanese manufacturer Toyota, will display the iconic Godzilla character.

Will this be the best one-off design we see all year?

Racing Bulls livery designer ‘deserves a raise’ after Japanese Grand Prix rework

Reacting to Racing Bulls’ announcement on Instagram, one fan called it ‘the best special livery ever’. Another said they ‘never disappoint when it comes to special liveries’.

Last year, they raced with custom paintwork in Miami, Great Britain, Austin and Las Vegas. The team are trying to cultivate a unique, fashionable identity after their 2024 rebrand.

Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad are apparently ‘winning the livery championship already’ with their Suzuka switch-up. The design was called ‘beautiful and legendary’.

Other comments included ‘that is a livery and a half’ and ‘livery designer deserves a raise’.

Sister team Red Bull memorably paid tribute to Honda in Japan during the final year of their partnership, with Max Verstappen winning the race.

Racing Bulls won’t be able to use their biggest strength at Suzuka

Racing Bulls will arrive in Japan sixth in the championship, level on points with Red Bull. With two clean weekends, they could easily have been ahead.

Lawson’s race in Australia was wrecked by a botched start, while Lindblad was hardly able to run during the sole practice session in China, which had a knock-on effect.

The Racing Bulls car is rapid on the straights, even faster than engine suppliers Red Bull, but the fast and flowing Suzuka layout is one of the year’s biggest aerodynamic tests.

It was at this race one year ago that Lawson returned to Racing Bulls, with Yuki Tsunoda stepping up to the top team. Fortunately for both teams, the line-ups appear more settled this year.
