Pierre Gasly has had his say on Christian Horner’s sacking during the build-up to the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend.
Christian Horner was sacked by Red Bull Racing following the team’s lacklustre opening half of the 2025 season. The team currently find themselves fourth in the constructors’ standings, behind rivals McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes.
| Position | Constructors' Standings | Points |
| 1 | McLaren Racing | 460 |
| 2 | Scuderia Ferrari | 222 |
| 3 | Mercedes-AMG Petronas | 210 |
| 4 | Red Bull Racing | 172 |
A number of teams have since been interested in acquiring the 51-year-old’s experience and expertise. The new Cadillac F1 team were recently in contact with Horner over potentially taking charge ahead of their first season in the sport, despite appointing their first team principal last December.
Fred Vasseur‘s contract situation at Ferrari also sparked rumours of a potential team principal role for the former Red Bull man at the Prancing Horse. It has since been reported that these rumours of Horner taking up a role in Maranello are ‘unsupported by reality’.

Pierre Gasly is ‘sure’ that Christian Horner will return to the F1 paddock
Speaking to Canal+ on Thursday morning, Pierre Gasly spoke on his former boss’s departure, telling reporters, “There was certainly a lot of noise. I think we need to remember the career he has had over the past 20 years and everything he has achieved.
“He was there from day one when Red Bull arrived, 20 years at the helm of this team, numerous world titles, both as a driver and as a team. So, I think that’s the main thing to remember throughout his career. I think it’s one of the most successful main teams in F1.
“I was able to work with him for six months. Obviously, I was closer to Helmut because Helmut came to get me when I was 17, and the relationship was always a bit closer to Helmut because he was in charge of the drivers, but I wish Christian all the best, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing him again in the paddock.”
When asked if there is potential for Horner to join the Frenchman at Alpine, Gasly replied, “We’ll see, we’ll see what happens. I think that today, with Flavio, everything is pretty clear. We know what we’re building. Everyone is very focused on 2026, and we’ll see what happens.”
What role could Christian Horner have at Alpine in the future?
Alpine have been reported to be the best option for Christian Horner to return to the F1 paddock since his immediate dismissal from Red Bull in July.
What makes the French constructor so attractive for the 51-year-old is the fact that he can purchase a stake in the team, something he wasn’t able to do at his previous employers.
Renault is considering selling a 20% stake in the team, meaning that Horner could purchase the share in Alpine for £298m and bypass the issue of having to report to Flavio Briatore and the rest of the Renault Group board if he takes charge.
The £110m severance package that Red Bull will have to pay out to Horner may come in handy if he is to put in an offer to Renault for part-ownership of the team.
However, Horner’s previous comments about Renault during their engine partnership with Red Bull between 2007 and 2018 may harm his chances of being a part of the team. He was critical of the engines supplied by the French manufacturer towards the latter stages of their deal.
