Pierre Gasly fires Alpine strong warning after admitting the F1 team’s reality

Pierre Gasly has confirmed that Alpine will have a ‘completely different’ car for 2025 but has sent the Enstone crew a strong warning after admitting the F1 team’s reality.

It has been far from the season that Alpine dreamed of when they unveiled an aggressively re-designed car in February. The A524 was an entirely new concept after Alpine regressed in 2023 to finish the campaign sixth in the constructors’ standings, having been fourth in 2022.

But their plight has festered further this term, with Alpine ninth in the teams’ championship ahead of the final six rounds. Through the first 18 Grand Prix plus three F1 Sprint events, the Renault-owned squad only have 13 points. Alpine scored 100 points over 18 rounds in 2023.

Pierre Gasly warns Alpine must escape F1’s midfield with their new car in 2025

Having just 13 points to their name places Alpine above only the point-less Sauber ahead of the 2024 United States Grand Prix, which marked round 18 in 2023. Williams are still within reach for Alpine with the Grove outfit currently on 16 points, behind RB (34) and Haas (31).

Gasly assures that Alpine will design a ‘completely different’ car for 2025 to try and address this season’s shortcomings. But the state of affairs in Enstone, with Renault also deciding to scrap its own F1 engine division in Viry, has annoyed Gasly with Alpine seldom competitive.

Alpine’s sole points so far this season have come with Gasly finishing three Grand Prix in P9 and two in P10, plus Esteban Ocon bagging three P10 finishes and one P9. But even Alpine simply regularly returning to the midfield fight will not be enough for Gasly come next year.

“Since January, we’ve said that the car is completely out of the race,” Gasly conceded, via quotes by Speedweek. “At times we managed to get to ninth or 10th place. Next year, we have to take a big step forward [and be] not even in the midfield.

“The goal was to get close to the top three [teams]. We’ve been pushed out of the midfield and have actually been pushed back. So, we just have to make sure we put ourselves in a much better position.”

Alpine are enduring their worst season in Formula 1 by a long way

The 2024 season is very likely to represent Alpine’s worst campaign since Renault re-named its Formula 1 team in 2021. Alpine finished the 2021 campaign sat fifth in the constructors’ standings with 155 points, before scoring 173 in 2022, 120 in 2023 and now just 13 in 2024.

It would be a miracle if Gasly and Ocon were to turn Alpine’s year around to at least match the points they scored last term. Gasly and Ocon are also without a point through their last three and four Grand Prix respectively, with personal best finishes of P12 and P13, as well.

Part of their problem also stems from Gasly lamenting Alpine being ‘too slow’ to react with their development after seeing their deficit to the top teams grow. Now, the Enstone outfit are having to hit reset once again to try and get back on track before F1’s 2026 regulations.
