The role of a Formula 1 team principal is multi-faceted and requires spinning dozens of plates at once to run a successful outfit.
Christian Horner and Toto Wolff have been stalwarts of the paddock now for some time and both delivered championships during their tenure.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, former F1 team manager and paddock expert Peter Windsor was discussing the positive aspects of one of their rivals.
Incredibly at this stage of the season, three teams are still in the running to win the Constructors’ Championship.
Red Bull’s dominance looks set to come to an end unless the team can find a solution for their current issues quickly.
McLaren are just eight points behind them and have the fastest car on the grid.
However, McLaren have also made changes to their papaya rules to try and help Lando Norris in the Drivers’ Championship and that may trip them up in their pursuit of both titles.
Suddenly, Ferrari are in the mix as well after Charles Leclerc’s victory at Monza and could theoretically take the lead in the standings in Baku if results for their way.

Windsor has been raving about team principal Frederic Vasseur and believes he has a very similar mindset to that of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Nico Rosberg praised Vasseur’s role in Leclerc’s victory in Monza and that thinking will help him lead a team preparing for Hamilton’s arrival and expecting to be chasing titles once again from next year.
Peter Windsor thinks Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur thinks just like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen
Talking about the situation at Ferrari, Windsor said: “It was quite interesting wasn’t it, immediately after the race Ferrari confirming the technical line-up that we knew about anyway, confirming that Loic Serra will be there in terms of the chassis and confirming that Diego Tondi will continue to run the Aero program and Enrico Gualtieri, the power unit.
“But now that Serra will be directly responsible to Frederic Vasseur, I think that’s a really good thing.

“Freddie’s greatest contribution is keeping things simple. He’s got a sort of Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen-type brain of sifting through all the crud and whatever’s important he can think about and focus on but gets away from all the other stuff.

“Very, very difficult to do in his position, particularly at Ferrari, where it’s so political and because of that, I think he’s probably quite good at being responsible for the engineering, if you like because he can just sort of look at the really important focal points and he won’t get down to the tiny nitty gritty of the engineering.
“He’ll say, look, we’ve got to get a better front end for this top speed. I don’t care what we do. I don’t care how we do it. This is what we’ve got to achieve. He’ll be quite good in things like that.”
Frederic Vasseur explains why he wanted Hamilton over Verstappen
After Ferrari’s failed update package was delivered in Spain, few would have predicted them to be in the mix to potentially win the Constructors’ Championship this season.
Carlos Sainz is a superb driver, but the thought of a Leclerc and Hamilton partnership for next year and beyond is hard to resist.
Vasseur has explained why he chased Hamilton instead of Verstappen to create what’s likely to be the strongest line-up on the grid next year, although McLaren will give them a run for their money.
The 56-year-old has to make sure his team are in the strongest possible position so that Hamilton doesn’t feel like he’s made a mistake abandoning a Mercedes project on the rise.
It all comes down to the new regulations in 2026 and how each team interprets the upcoming ruleset.
