Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are one of the strongest driver line-ups on the Formula 1 grid and both have their own specific strengths.

The young Australian currently leads the way in the Drivers’ Championship between the two McLaren rivals.

Speaking on the Beyond The Grid Podcast, the 22-year-old shared what he thought his more experienced teammate is particularly good at.

Oscar Piastri shares Lando Norris’s biggest strengths

The 2024 driver market is set to burst into action at any moment with more than half of the grid in the final year of their contract.

Thankfully for McLaren, they shouldn’t be involved in the chaos that could potentially ensue.

Less than 12 months into his Formula 1 career, McLaren decided they had seen enough from Oscar Piastri to offer him a new long-term contract.

Despite interested glances from Red Bull, the Australian should be racing in papaya for some time.

McLaren seemed to be well aware that some very exciting seats could open up and quickly got Lando Norris tied down to a new deal too.

It means going forward, McLaren have an exceptional line-up for years to come which should really help the development of the car going forward, with both drivers on the same page.

The car still needs some tweaks before it can compete with Ferrari and might need some serious upgrades before they’re on the same level as Red Bull.

That hasn’t stopped former world champion Alan Jones from backing his fellow Aussie to stand on the podium in Melbourne.

Podcast host Tom Clarkson asked Piastri: “When you look at his data, where is he [Lando Norris] particularly strong?”

The 22-year-old replied: “Good question, I mean it’s not just one specific area or a specific thing.

“I would say the biggest thing is that he’s always there and even if there are mistakes, he’s very good at minimising the amount of time you lose from that.

“There’s not one particular thing that I clearly go, he’s mega here or bad here, it chops and changes each weekend, but he’s obviously very quick.”

Norris clearly has plenty of strengths and Piastri would have picked up on a lot of those over the last 12 months.

There are still things the Brit can improve on though, such as his performances in qualifying.

With Piastri’s progress being closely followed by Red Bull, Damon Hill thinks Norris could be a candidate to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.

That would be a bitter blow for Zak Brown and Andrea Stella if either driver moved on, with no driver pairing on the grid possessing the same level of potential.
