It has been an impressive season for Oscar Piastri so far having secured his first Grand Prix victory before the Formula 1 summer break in 2024.
The Australian has improved markedly since the season began and his regular high points scoring has enabled McLaren to close the gap to Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship to just 42 points with 10 races left.
Oscar Piastri has also outscored his teammate Lando Norris in the last two races, despite the latter being billed as the main championship contender to Max Verstappen.
What makes Oscar Piastri’s performances more remarkable is the injury he picked up during the British Grand Prix, which he shared on during the summer break.
Taking to social media before the season restarts, he issued an update on how his recovery has panned out on his Instagram page.

Oscar Piastri issues an update on injury recovery
F1 cars can be very demanding on the drivers due to the amount of G-force they must endure when going through the corners. This is why they must stay in top shape during the off-season with regimented fitness regimes.
Races can also see the drivers experience extreme temperatures in the cockpit, which means drivers must always ensure they are in peak physical condition when participating in races.
Piastri recently revealed that on the way to winning his first race in Hungary, he was racing with a broken rib. Sharing a photo of an X-ray taken after the British GP, he admitted that he was still recovering.
But in an update on his Instagram, he claimed that he was now ‘healed’ ahead of the Dutch GP at Zandvoort.
“Sunned and healed, ready for some more race cars,” wrote Piastri.
Damon Hill makes World Champion comparison to Oscar Piastri
The 1996 F1 world champion Damon Hill has been impressed by Piastri’s form lately, drawing comparisons to another iconic champion in F1’s history.
Hill believes that Piastri is similar to three-time F1 champion Jackie Stewart, with his demeanour resembling the Scottish driver during his glory years. The 85-year-old took part in 100 races but achieved 27 wins and 43 podiums.

Piastri has a long way before he eclipses those records, but he is vying to be the first Australian World Champion since Jack Brabham and Alan Jones.
With a competitive McLaren that is set to have even more ‘developments’ brought during the second half of the season, expect to see both a well-rested Piastri and Norris fighting for victories.
