McLaren star Oscar Piastri has revealed the ‘impressive thing’ that makes Lewis Hamilton stand out from other Formula 1 legends.

Hamilton, 41, will forever be regarded as one of the greatest drivers in F1 history, having won seven world championships.

So far in his career, the Brit has driven for teams like McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari, winning 105 races and securing 203 podium finishes.

Despite a tough debut season with Ferrari last year, Hamilton has produced much-improved performances in 2026, clinching his first podium finish for the Scuderia at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Over the years, fans have been partaking in the age-old debate of who is the GOAT of F1, with the likes of Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna and Fernando Alonso all mentioned in the past.

Oscar Piastri on why Lewis Hamilton is one of the greatest drivers in F1 history

For Piastri, Hamilton has something that he thinks the others don’t, and it is how he conducts himself on and off the track.

Speaking to Sky Sports reporter Rachel Brookes in her new book ‘F1 Racing Drive’, Piastri said that Hamilton has always been ‘very clean’ on track and has also made a big difference in the world.

Brookes wrote: “Oscar Piastri was born in the middle of the Schumacher Ferrari domination, in April 2001 and includes Michael on his list. He had this to say.

“I think ultimately, we will never know because of the different generations. But I think there are definitely drivers that stand out. I think the main one is Senna for a lot of people, and I would include myself in that.

“We’ll never know what Senna’s career would have looked like or could have been. I also think Alain Prost was an incredibly impressive driver. Michael Schumacher is hard to look past because of everything he’s won.

What do you expect from Lewis Hamilton in the 2026 F1 season?

“Purely on stats and also outside of the stats, though, the impressive thing about Lewis Hamilton is not just the amount of wins and championships he has.

“But also the way he’s gone about it, he has always been very clean on track; he has also made a very big difference in the world, using F1 as the platform.

“I think that is definitely something Lewis has that maybe not every driver in that category does. I’m still racing against Lewis and Max, but I think Max, as well, will ultimately go down as one of the best of all time.”

What did Lewis Hamilton say about being the GOAT of Formula 1?

Back in 2024, during an interview with GQ Sports, Hamilton was asked: “Is Lewis Hamilton the GOAT?”

In response, the seven-time world champion simply said: “I mean I know what I am. But that’s something I’ll continue to try and show you.”

It can be said that Hamilton is for sure one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time, having won the greatest number of world titles, seven, the same as Schumacher. The Brit also has the most wins, most podiums and the most pole positions.

Looking ahead, if Hamilton manages to win his eighth world championship, he will further cement himself in F1 history.
