Oscar Piastri has spoken out about his ‘relationship’ with McLaren amid reports linking Max Verstappen with a move to the team.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that Piastri is considering terminating his McLaren contract, which runs until 2028.
It has been suggested that Piastri could activate an exit clause within his contract if he is outside the top five in the world championship standings. Following a disappointing British Grand Prix, the Australian currently sits in sixth place.
An exit for Piastri would open the door for McLaren to make a move for Verstappen, who has been linked with a move away from Red Bull.
Now, Piastri himself has also spoken out about the speculation surrounding his future at McLaren.
Which team should Oscar Piastri join if he leaves McLaren?
Oscar Piastri reveals that he is ‘happy’ at McLaren amid Max Verstappen rumours
Speaking to the BBC Chequered Flag Extra podcast, Piastri was asked about how he is dealing with the ‘noise’.
In response, the 25-year-old made clear that he is only focused on doing his job and stated that he knows that he will be at the team for the ‘next while’.
Furthermore, Piastri confirmed that he is happy with the team and the relationship is good.
Piastri said: “For me, just trying to focus on my job is the main thing. I know that I’m here for the next while. I know the team are happy with me. I’m happy with the team and the relationship is good.
“So, for me, that’s just noise and not for me to deal with. I’m trying to stay focused on performing as best as I can. That’s the biggest thing for me, and I’ll let the others have their fun and do their talking.”

Since it was reported that Piastri was looking to engineer a move away from McLaren, he has been linked with teams like Red Bull and Audi.
However, speaking recently, Piastri’s manager Mark Webber branded the speculation as ‘nonsense’.
Meanwhile, McLaren CEO Zak Brown has previously stated that he is happy with his driver line-up.
He joked that he would sign Verstappen in a heartbeat, but only if he had a third car available at McLaren.
Looking ahead, with Verstappen’s future still unclear, the rumour mill will continue to ramp up as we edge closer towards the end of the season, when several drivers are set to be out of contract.
The 2026 F1 season will resume next weekend with the Belgian Grand Prix, taking place at Spa-Francorchamps.
