Nico Rosberg has admitted that he is ‘amazed’ at how former teammate and arch-rival Lewis Hamilton is still going in Formula 1.
The German dramatically called time on his career after winning his only title in 2016. Coined the ‘Silver War’, Rosberg and Hamilton played out a bitter rivalry, with the pair clashing numerous times on track.
After Rosberg’s retirement, Hamilton went on to win the next four championships, becoming a seven-time champion by 2020. 10 years after his ex-Mercedes teammate left the sport, he is still going with Ferrari in 2026.

Nico Rosberg ‘amazed’ that Lewis Hamilton is still racing in F1 10 years after his retirement
Since winning his seventh title in 2020, it has been a tough ride for Hamilton. Losing the 2021 title controversially to Max Verstappen, he has not mounted a serious championship challenge since.
His first year at Ferrari in 2025 was arguably his worst in F1, but under the new regulations in 2026, the Brit has turned a corner. Ferrari are starting to listen to Hamilton, and it is paying off with two podiums thus far, including his best result to date in Canada, where he finished P2.
Rosberg is happy Hamilton has ‘finally adapted’ to Ferrari, and he finds it ‘incredible’ that he is still racing in F1.
He said on the High Performance Podcast: “I’m amazed that he’s still driving. It’s crazy. I’m out since 10 years, and it’s not like we were young at the time, and he’s still going. Still going.
How many seasons does Lewis Hamilton have left in Formula 1?
“And it’s incredible how he has managed to build his life with such stability as well. To be able to have such longevity in a career, no scandals, performing at such a high level, because it’s not only about being a great race car driver.
“You need to build a life around that and not have scandals. There’s infinite examples and Lewis has done an incredible job to build a solid life, to be able to perform at such a high level for such a long time.
“And now taking on another huge challenge now at Ferrari and a huge struggle. It’s getting better now because with these new regs he’s performing much better than he was last year.
“But still he’s up against Charles Leclerc, who’s at the peak of his ability and he’s one of the greatest drivers of this generation.”

Prove me wrong: Lewis Hamilton can still win an eighth F1 drivers’ title
Asked if he wants Hamilton to win another title, he replied: “Yeah, of course I would. And he would deserve it. And it would be great to see him keep progressing as he has into this year, and I think he’ll win a race at least this year.
“But to get the championship, I think the car is not good enough and his level is not quite there yet. Hopefully he can still improve through the season.”
