The Monaco Grand Prix is iconic and while it may not produce the best racing, it gives Formula 1 drivers an opportunity to show off their incredible levels of concentration and car control.
While overtaking is a rarity, there is still the potential for some fascinating races to take place and a surprise result to be sprung – just ask Jarno Trulli and Olivier Panis who both achieved their only Formula 1 wins in the principality.
The Monaco Grand Prix also allows teams to get creative and try and stand out from the crowd during a weekend synonymous with glitz and glamour.
McLaren are doing just that and fans have reacted to the one-off livery that they’re running in Monaco that pays homage to one of the sport’s greatest talents.
Ayrton Senna was the king of Monaco, winning more races than any other driver in Formula 1 history in Monte Carlo.

McLaren fans react to Ayrton Senna-inspired livery being used at the Monaco Grand Prix
Racing at Monaco is a dream come true for many drivers and this year the Formula 3 and Formula 2 series will be joining F1 in Monte Carlo.
Although there are no Brazilians in Formula 1 right now, tributes were paid to Ayrton Senna on the 30th anniversary of his passing at Imola last weekend.
The likes of Gabriel Bortoleto and Enzo Fittipaldi wore Senna’s colours on his helmet as did Pierre Gasly to whom Senna was a hero growing up.
Ayrton Senna is synonymous with both McLaren and Monaco and fans are delighted that the team have chosen this race to pay tribute to the Brazilian who won three world championships with the British team.
He also secured five of his record six wins at Monaco with McLaren, spanning from beating Nigel Mansell by milliseconds in 1992 to defeating the rest of the field by almost a minute on two occasions.
McLaren will hope that Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri can replicate his success this weekend with their strongest car in decades.
McLaren fans can’t wait to see Ayrton Senna’s livery at Monaco
Norris and Piastri will be driving a McLaren with a livery inspired by Ayrton Senna’s iconic helmet.
The car looks magnificent in the colours of Brazil’s flag, with a mainly yellow body and green and blue touches on the rear wing and in front of the driver’s cockpit.
There’s still a nod to McLaren’s modern papaya colouring on the wheel colours, but they’ve dedicated almost the entire livery to Senna’s memory.
Posting on Instagram, McLaren fans were delighted with what they were going to see on the streets of Monaco and added to Karun Chandhok’s amazement.
User tanyaaaaa19 said: “Not that’s a good special livery,” while Haroon Ahmad added: “Take notes Ferrari” in reference to their ‘blue’ livery in Miami.

Pati_roth said: “The King of Monaco deserved no less! Beautiful”, and Simon Gosselin Photo commented: “Love it! McLaren F1 team has to come to its prime in Formula 1, like in the 90s!”

NV_Carmocs replied: “Now that really McCooking!!” before user fonzi4ro asked: “Best tribute livery of all time?”

Oscar Piastri also reacted on social media after the reveal, saying: “Can’t wait to drive this!”
Meanwhile, Lando Norris suggested that he’s honouring Senna in his own personal way as well, posting: “Done a special tribute helmet too,” alongside a Brazilian flag emoji.
There were plenty of Brazilian F1 fans who also wanted to see McLaren run their Monaco livery when the paddock reaches Interlagos later in the year.
It would be fitting to honour Senna’s legacy at his home Grand Prix as well as at his favourite track.
