The links to Mercedes are still there, while Verstappen reportedly initiated talks with McLaren over the Austrian GP weekend. Oscar Piastri is considering terminating his contract, which would open the door for the Dutchman to replace him in 2027.

Now, according to BBC Sport, Verstappen’s camp are also speaking to Ferrari, as well as the aforementioned teams and Red Bull.

Verstappen is on Ferrari’s shortlist of potential candidates to replace Lewis Hamilton. However, if this were to happen, it all points towards a deal for the 2028 season.

Fred Vasseur and Hamilton himself have confirmed that the seven-time champion will be racing in 2027. Charles Leclerc recently signed a new contract, thus ruling out any move for Verstappen to Maranello for next year.

Hamilton has an option for 2028 in his contract, making that the earliest Verstappen could join Ferrari. He is keeping all possibilities open, but if he wishes to stay in F1 in 2027 with another team, McLaren seems the most likely destination.

Mercedes will not get rid of Kimi Antonelli, and George Russell has seemingly confirmed that he has a contract for 2027.
