Max Verstappen mirrors Liam Lawson praise with Isack Hadjar after ‘solid’ Red Bull debut

Max Verstappen has been quite complimentary of Isack Hadjar, despite his struggles at the Australian Grand Prix.

Hadjar qualified P3 to start the Australian Grand Prix, while Verstappen started at the back of the grid in P20 due to a crash in Q3.

However, it was Verstappen who managed to secure points for Red Bull, as he finished sixth, while Hadjar had to end his race early due to an engine issue.

A first fastest lap of the season for Max Verstappen! Where would he have finished if he started in the top 10?

Hadjar was clearly frustrated with the issue, as his stellar showing at qualifying went right out the window through no fault of his own.

But Max Verstappen still believes Isack Hadjar brings something important to Red Bull, despite his praise for him sounding very similar to what he said about Liam Lawson last season.

Max Verstappen says Red Bull ‘need’ Isack Hadjar, similar to his comments on Liam Lawson

Max Verstappen was asked about Isack Hadjar’s struggles at the Australian Grand Prix and how he can help Red Bull as the season goes on.

Verstappen admitted Hadjar did well at Albert Park, despite not being able to finish the race. He added that Hadjar stepping up when he didn’t do well is a big boost to Red Bull.

“He had a good, solid first race weekend. It’s just a shame he couldn’t show it in the race. But in qualifying, he was there when I was struggling. We need that as a team.”

Verstappen sticking up for Hadjar won’t come as a surprise to fans who paid attention to how he tackled the criticism and eventual demotion Liam Lawson experienced from Red Bull to Racing Bulls.

“Our car is extremely difficult. I think that when you put Liam in the Racing Bulls car, he will go faster. I really think so.”

“That car is easier to drive than ours. I notice that when I talk to Liam. Last year, the difference between him and Yuki Tsunoda was not that big, I thought.”

Max Verstappen proving leadership skills in handling of Red Bull teammates’ criticism

Max Verstappen’s willingness to step up and defend his teammates from criticism shows just how far he has come during his time at Red Bull.

Just a few years ago, Verstappen’s issues with Sergio Perez became evident, as the two clashed on the track on several occasions.

Now a veteran in the sport, Verstappen has made it a priority to defend his teammates and shield them from undue and unfair criticism.

Hopefully, these comments from Verstappen can give Hadjar a much-needed confidence boost ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix.
