Max Verstappen has ‘small possibility’ of joining one of Red Bull’s rivals in the future

Max Verstappen might be dominating Formula 1 with Red Bull right now, but there’s a ‘small possibility’ that he may end up with rivals Mercedes.

The Dutchman started where he left off in 2023 by finishing a pit stop ahead of teammate Sergio Perez in Bahrain.

However, a report from The Telegraph shares that if he ever does leave Red Bull, the Silver Arrows is a potential destination.

Small possibility Verstappen could join Mercedes

While things are flying for Red Bull on the track, there are still plenty of distractions off it.

Max Verstappen is still dominating race weekends and while that remains the case it’s hard to see him getting too upset.

He’s once again got a comfortable lead over teammate Perez who may have held up his end of the bargain by finishing second but failed to do so convincingly.

He had to overtake both Ferraris and George Russell to finish behind the Dutchman following an average performance in qualifying.

It was something Christian Horner told him he needed to improve over the winter but the evidence that he’s done so doesn’t exist yet, albeit after only one Grand Prix.

His contract expires at the end of the year with plenty of drivers hoping to poach his spot.

However, if Verstappen ends up departing as well, there’s a ‘small possibility’ he will join Mercedes.

With a seat to fill following Lewis Hamilton’s upcoming move to Ferrari, the three-time world champion would be an incredible solution.

But, it seems impossible to imagine Verstappen on the grid in anything but a Red Bull livery.

Verstappen might have to consider his options

The report from The Telegraph states that there is a ‘small possibility’ that Max Verstappen swaps Red Bull for Mercedes.

They go on to say that Toto Wolff has tried to sign the 26-year-old before, but they missed out due to the long-term deals Hamilton and Nico Rosberg already had.

The possibility of seeing Verstappen in a Mercedes is something few Formula 1 fans would have ever considered.

That includes Wolff too, although he stated after the Bahrain Grand Prix that ‘anything is possible’ in F1.

Events off the circuit seem to be dominating the action of it and that’s unlikely to change while Red Bull continue to be a class above the other manufacturers in the paddock.
