A 24-race Formula 1 season can make life difficult for drivers who might have hobbies outside of their everyday jobs.
One example of that is Max Verstappen, who likes to spend his time competing in endurance races when he gets the chance. GT3 cars have piqued his interest.
Surprisingly, Red Bull allow him to conduct duties outside of the Formula 1 paddock during the season, but that may be down to the professionalism and maturity he shows when doing so.
Heading into the 2026 F1 regulations, he faces a new challenge, and uses a new engine for the first time in seven years. Almost immediately, he’ll know if it’s good enough to compete.
How likely do you think it is that Max Verstappen stays with Red Bull until 2028?
Let us know in the comments below!
Verstappen ‘shouldn’t’ be able to win at Red Bull, according to Alex Palou, who thinks that he takes his car to places that it shouldn’t be.
Laurent Mekies expects to be asked how he can keep Verstappen happy throughout the next 12 months. Those questions will be louder if Red Bull struggle.

Max Verstappen now has schedule ‘solution’ for the 2026 Nurburgring 24 Hours
Verstappen ‘won’t stand a chance’ in 2026 unless he makes a change, according to Ralf Schumacher, who thinks that he may need to adjust his driving style.
The new cars are going to demand a different approach, and it’s going to require a significant adjustment from every driver on the grid.
Verstappen is scared by the 2026 rules and worried about the potential for big gaps between drivers early in the campaign.
Away from the track, he may have just been handed a boost amid his aspirations of competing in the Nurburgring 24 Hours one day.
The Race reports that a ‘solution’ has been found to move part of the schedule, which may now provide the Dutchman with the opportunity to compete in the event.
There are still other obstacles that he will face first, but it’s a promising sign that he might be able to do what no other driver has ever done mid-season before.

Why Max Verstappen is expected to have a difficult 2026 F1 season
Not only is Verstappen going to have a new engine in 2026, but it’s going to be the first full season under new management in more than 20 years.
They’re not going to get everything right the first time around. There’s going to need to be some level of patience from both sides.
Verstappen hasn’t ‘done that many laps’ in the simulator yet, which doesn’t sound like the most ideal preparation.
However, it might be a good approach to get a feel for the real car first, before comparing it with how accurate the simulator is. Then he can have more trust in it.
