Martin Brundle has hinted that Lewis Hamilton might regret joining Ferrari after seeing what Kimi Antonelli is doing with his old team, Mercedes.
The 2026 season has been a much better campaign for Hamilton at Ferrari, with the Brit adapting well to the new regulations. He scored his first podium for the team in Shanghai, before recording his best result to date at the Canadian Grand Prix with P2.
Charles Leclerc thought Hamilton’s performance was ‘incredible’, with the 41-year-old enjoying a brilliant battle with Max Verstappen. However, he was no match for race winner Kimi Antonelli and Mercedes, and Brundle has suggested that he might be regretting his move to Maranello.

Martin Brundle says Lewis Hamilton’s Canadian GP podium is ‘bittersweet’ as Kimi Antonelli dominates with Mercedes
Since the regulations changed, Mercedes have been the class of the field, having won every Grand Prix thus far. Antonelli has won the last four in a row, marking the first driver in history to win their first four races consecutively.
Now holding a 43-point lead over teammate George Russell, the Italian has a clear advantage in the championship battle. It is what makes Hamilton’s P2 in Montreal ‘bittersweet’, according to Brundle, as he could be where Antonelli is had he stayed put at Mercedes.
Should Lewis Hamilton regret leaving Mercedes for Ferrari?
Talking on Sky Sports F1 (24/5, 10:40 pm) after the race, Brundle discussed Hamilton’s race in Canada: “It’s kind of, I think it’s sort of sweet, bittersweet for Lewis, isn’t it?
“Because Antonelli wins the race in the car Lewis stepped out of to go to Ferrari. But to get a second place there in such a competitive way…
“For Lewis to get that by overtaking his old rival in Max Verstappen, he’ll be thoroughly satisfied with that.”

Should Lewis Hamilton regret leaving Mercedes?
It is easy to say now that Hamilton should regret joining Ferrari, given how well Mercedes are performing under the new regulations.
He knows that the Silver Arrows have the upper hand. Hamilton says Ferrari cannot defend against Mercedes on the straights as the SF-26 does not have the power to match the W17.
Some great performances on track, but which driver was the standout at the Canadian Grand Prix?
But it is clear that the Maranello outfit are making huge progress, and the changes they made over the winter, including listening to Hamilton’s technical feedback, have put them in a good position to fight.
David Coulthard thinks Hamilton will not regret leaving Mercedes, as he and Toto Wolff knew it was time to move on at the end of 2024. Ferrari is the adventure that the seven-time champion longed for, and now, he is starting to finally gel.
