Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle has admitted he can’t wait to see Lewis Hamilton racing against Ferrari in 2024 before his move to the Italian team next year.

The 2025 driver market was sent into overdrive on February 1 when the news broke that the seven-time world champion would be leaving Mercedes.

In an interview with GQ Magazine, Brundle has been talking about the upcoming season and the fascinating battle Lewis Hamilton faces against his future team.

Brundle can’t wait to see Hamilton race against Ferrari

There is going to be plenty to talk about on the grid during the 2024 Formula 1 season.

Red Bull look to have maintained their advantage over the rest of the grid and potentially even extended it after another strong showing in testing in Bahrain.

It means the usual suspects – potentially joined by the newly-named RB team – will be fighting over second place in the Constructors’ Championship.

As Brundle mentions, this means Hamilton will be facing off against his new team Ferrari on a regular basis to potentially secure the final podium position.

The 39-year-old will want to remain on good terms with his future team but it’s hard to see that affecting how he races.

Any run-ins with Charles Leclerc might make their relationship slightly frostier than it needs to be before the 2025 season when they’ll be teammates.

It’s also unlikely that Carlos Sainz will give him any leeway considering he’s the man who has lost his seat to accommodate the Brit.

Spotlight once again on Hamilton after winless 2023 season

Speaking about the upcoming campaign, Brundle said: “I thought, oh, this is looking a little bit static. And then the Lewis to Ferrari story turned up, and it’s like all the lights came on again.

“Lewis will be wheel to wheel somewhere with a Ferrari [this year], and we’ll wonder how that’ll go down for next year – it’s the story that will keep on giving.”

The majority of Formula 1 fans – like Brundle – didn’t see the Hamilton to Ferrari move happening despite it being well-known that he’s always wanted to drive for the Italian manufacturer.

Ferrari do look like Red Bull’s closest rival and Hamilton will hope they can build on that over the next 12 months before he arrives.

The main talking point is going to be which team adapts to the new regulations in 2026 the best.

If they can get an advantage over the rest of the grid that season, then Hamilton has the perfect chance to win his record-eighth championship.
