Mark Webber has revealed how his Formula 1 title heartbreak at Red Bull is different from the one Oscar Piastri suffered in 2025.
Heading into the summer break in 2025, Piastri was the favourite to win the world title after a string of impressive performances.
However, a sudden drop in form from Piastri allowed McLaren teammate Lando Norris to overtake him in the standings.
Eventually, Piastri fell to third place as Max Verstappen mounted a late charge to win the world championship and finished just two points behind Norris in second.

Mark Webber ‘proud’ of how Oscar Piastri dealt with 2025 title disappointment
Speaking recently to RacingNews365, ex-Red Bull driver Webber, who takes charge of Piastri’s commercial interests, has explained how his own heartbreak differs.
During his time at Red Bull, Webber finished in third place three times, twice behind Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso and once behind Vettel and Jenson Button.
Webber stated that his missed world championships came late in his career, but Piastri has had to deal with the same situation at the very start of his.
Webber said: “My missed championship was much later in my career, whereas his [Piastri’s] is very early in his career, which is a big feather in his own cap. It’s incredible what he’s been able to do in such a short period of time, which, of course, we’re immensely proud of.
“When you aim incredibly high, and you just miss, it’s something you have to learn from quickly and rebound. It’s how you get back up, and that’s what he’s done, what he’s doing. We’ve seen that.
“Of course, it was a winter of reflection, clearly. That has to happen after such a long, long campaign.”

Mark Webber backs McLaren to allow Oscar Piastri to ‘go one better’ in 2026
Piastri has endured a tough start to the 2026 season after crashing out of his home race in Melbourne during a reconnaissance lap.
In Shanghai, Piastri failed to start the Chinese Grand Prix due to an electrical issue related to the MCL40’s Mercedes power unit.
However, Piastri bounced back in Suzuka and Miami with back-to-back podium finishes.
Looking ahead, Webber is confident that McLaren can give Piastri a car capable of challenging for the title.
He added: “Obviously, two non-finishes weren’t a nice way to start. But then, Suzuka was a phenomenal performance from him.
“I’ve got full faith in the team that McLaren is going to get the car back up and fight for the world title again, so he can go one better.”
