Logan Sargeant has reflected on his Formula 1 career two years after being axed by Williams midway through the season.
Sargeant joined Williams ahead of the 2023 season, replacing Nicholas Latifi. Latifi had struggled to match Alex Albon during his time in the seat and it was more of the same for his successor.
Indeed, Albon scored 27 of the team’s 28 points in 2023, with Sargeant notching the only point of his career at his home race in Austin. Despite James Vowles publicly trying to rally his driver, the same performance trend continued in year two.

Logan Sargeant: F1 opportunities were ‘awesome’, but there was a cost
Sargeant was dropped by Williams in the aftermath of the Dutch Grand Prix, where he’d crashed heavily during practice. That followed race-ending accidents in Miami and Canada.
These mistakes were particularly problematic for Williams given their well-documented shortage of spare parts. In Australia, Vowles even gave Sargeant’s car to Alex Albon when the Thai driver broke his one available chassis in practice.
That was a damning reflection of Sargeant’s standing within the team. Perhaps it shouldn’t have been a surprise when he lost his seat to Franco Colapinto with 10 races remaining.

Speaking to FanAmp, Sargeant said he was grateful to have driven ‘the best cars in the world’, but felt he was ‘jumped on’ with criticism.
“Loads of pros and cons come along with it,” he said. “Definitely a little lack of privacy, a little lack of respect, but that just comes with the spotlight. People like to jump on people.
“But then you also have a lot of people with the support. I would say one of the coolest parts is the places you get to go, the things you get to do that not many people get to do. That was awesome.
“And then, of course, the racing speaks for itself. The best cars in the world, 100%.”
What Logan Sargeant is doing now two years after F1 axe
Sargeant didn’t pursue full-time racing in 2025, though he did make two appearances in the IMSA SportsCar championship in the US.
After racing in the Daytona 24 Hours at the start of the year, he signed a deal to compete in the GT3 class of the World Endurance Championship with Proton.
“I just needed a little bit of time to myself to reset,” Sargeant said, explaining why he took a break. “It was a long, excruciating, mentally tough two years in F1.”

Sargeant showed his talent in the junior classes, finishing third in Formula 2 and fourth in F2, but like many others, struggled with the step up to F1.
Williams had already signed Carlos Sainz for the 2025 season when they dropped Sargeant, which meant Colapinto’s time in the seat was also short-lived.
