Liam Lawson has impressed on his return to the Formula 1 grid after finishing in the points for Visa CashApp RB.
RB had controversially decided to replace Daniel Ricciardo with Liam Lawson for the remainder of the season, which many are billing as a potential audition for a seat at Red Bull next season.
Even though Lawson headed into the weekend knowing he inherited an engine penalty that put him at the back of the grid, he still managed to climb up the field from 19th and back into the points in 9th.
Lawson also set the third quickest time in Q1 to show his potential ahead of the race and had a duel with Fernando Alonso during the Sprint on Saturday.

But there is one thing the New Zealander ‘forgot’ about when speaking on F1 TV post-race, having not been in the car since last year’s Qatar Grand Prix.
Liam Lawson forgot about ‘busy’ F1 cockpit
Drivers are known for making a lot of setup changes to their cars and adjustments while in the cockpit through the steering wheel throughout a race, and Lawson had only realised just how frantic it can be upon his return.
“I forgot how busy it is. The race is very long and you could be super proactive with the tools on the wheel,” said Lawson.
“The stint we did yesterday with the car was the key going into qualifying. We showed in Q1 the potential of the car but couldn’t show it in Q2, but we had an idea if it was strong but you never know in a race if it will be the same.”

Christian Horner’s verdict on Liam Lawson’s US GP
With five races remaining on the calendar, Lawson will take a lot of confidence heading into the next race weekend in Mexico.
Having beat Tsunoda comfortably throughout the weekend, which F1 fans raved about post-race, he could potentially be in line for a seat in the senior team next year.
Christian Horner was raving about Lawson’s ‘veteran’ performance when asked about Lawson after the race, saying he was a ‘hard racer’ when duelling with Alonso.
Martin Brundle also spotted one moment that proved Lawson has what it takes to race for Red Bull, which could mean the team has a possible issue if Sergio Perez improves.
