Lewis Hamilton’s chances of a strong result at the Miami Grand Prix were tarnished almost immediately as he made contact with Franco Colapinto on the opening lap.
Ferrari came with significant upgrades to the SF-26 at the Miami Grand Prix. But the seven-time champion could not take advantage of the new package.
Hamilton fought hard with Max Verstappen in the Sprint race, but he could only manage P7. He would repeat that result on Sunday after sustaining damage to his car on the first lap.

Lewis Hamilton apologised to Ferrari after Franco Colapinto incident
Heading into turn 11, Hamilton came to blows with the Alpine of Franco Colapinto. The Brit suffered damage to the floor and left sidepod, as he addressed the pit wall.
He said on the radio: “Got damage. I’ve definitely lost something from the car, I’m pretty sure. Left side.” Race engineer Carlo Santi noted the damage: “I see damaged side pod and floor. Nothing we can do.”

Hamilton then complained about a lack of downforce as a result of the incident: “Don’t have the downforce to keep up with these guys…”
He later said: “Going to be a long race with this damage,” but Santi tried to keep a positive mindset: “We can do it, I’m sure.”
Hamilton then apologised for the contact with Colapinto: “Sorry about the damage…” Santi replied: “Yeah, we see Lewis. It’s 10 to 15 points [loss]. It’s more high speed than in low speed and there is a Marshal on track.”

Ferrari fail to capitalise on upgrades after late Miami Grand Prix drama
It was a disappointing race for Ferrari as Charles Leclerc came home in P6. He had taken the lead at the start and was ahead at the safety car restart, but he soon got caught by Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli.
A podium looked on course, but Oscar Piastri found a way through in the closing stages. On the final lap, he spun at turn three and hit the wall, sustaining damage to his SF-26.
Leclerc fell back behind George Russell and Max Verstappen and had to settle for only eight points. Hamilton was shocked by Leclerc’s result as Ferrari missed a huge opportunity to score a decent haul of points.
