The Canadian Grand Prix has always been kind to Lewis Hamilton, but his results in recent years have paralleled his career trajectory.
Outside of three DNFs, Hamilton has managed to earn a top-six finish at the Canadian Grand Prix in each of his appearances in Montreal.
However, last year, in his first go-around at the track with Ferrari, Hamilton earned his worst finish with a P6 result.
Do you expect Lewis Hamilton’s top-six streak to end this weekend?
And amid recent frustration over Hamilton opting not to use Ferrari’s simulator ahead of this weekend’s race, there is a worry that he might not be as successful.
This is what makes the Canadian Grand Prix such an important race for both Hamilton and Ferrari. A failure to get the right result would confirm what many have worried about – Hamilton’s 2026 season is slipping away from him.

Lewis Hamilton’s result in the Canadian GP will show whether he can find success with Ferrari
As mentioned before, Lewis Hamilton has yet to finish outside of the top six at the Canadian Grand Prix in his career.
But a closer look at his recent results tells a different story – one that sounds similar to the trajectory of his career in recent years.
Hamilton’s last win in Montreal came in 2019. Due to COVID-19, the races in 2020 and 2021 were cancelled.
By the time Hamilton returned to Montreal in 2022, he and Mercedes were no longer the same force they had been in years past.
Hamilton managed to claw two podium finishes in 2022 and 2023, earning a P3 result both times. But it showed that he wasn’t competitive compared to Max Verstappen or Lando Norris.
In 2024 and 2025, Hamilton earned consecutive career-worst finishes in Montreal with a P4 and P6 result, respectively.
The two races also marked his two lowest starting positions at the track in his career, starting P7 in 2024 and P5 in 2025.
Hamilton’s results at the Canadian Grand Prix over the last few years have shown that he isn’t the same powerful force he was in the last few years.

Lewis Hamilton’s recent season surge seems to have been nullified
In the first two races this season, Lewis Hamilton looked rejuvenated with Ferrari, earning a P4 and P3 finish and looking competitive against the other top drivers.
It felt as though the changes Hamilton made with Ferrari had paid off, and he could find himself in the championship mix again.
However, the following two races didn’t end as well, with Hamilton earning consecutive P6 finishes, with frustration setting in for the British driver.
The Canadian Grand Prix could be an opportunity for Hamilton to course-correct and find his way back to the level he’s shown across his career in Montreal, and the level he’s shown this season.
But it could also prove to be the confirmation that Ferrari have needed, that Lewis Hamilton is just not a championship-calibre driver at this point in his career, and cannot help them turn their decades-long misfortune.
