Lewis Hamilton told he did something ‘not normal’ on his way to finishing seventh at the Belgian Grand Prix

The first half of Lewis Hamilton’s maiden season with Ferrari has been a miserable affair and any hope of winning a record eighth world title feels slim.

Despite a raft of new upgrades, the Briton has failed to match the level of performance delivered by teammate Charles Leclerc.

Ferrari were hoping that Hamilton’s arrival at the team would help spark a winning culture that they could take into the 2026 F1 regulations.

However, sitting down in sixth in the drivers’ championship and without a first podium for the Scuderia just one race from the summer break, things look bleak.

After a Belgian Grand Prix held in changeable conditions, Ferrari fans praised Hamilton’s ‘masterclass’ as he scythed through the midfield.

It followed a tough few days for the 40-year-old, including some harsh comments from ex-teammate Nico Rosberg. He hinted that Hamilton might be making ‘excuses’ after some poor qualifying form.

Lewis Hamilton’s wet-weather pace was ‘not normal’ for Ferrari at the Belgian Grand Prix

Even though full focus will turn to next season pretty soon, some teams and drivers haven’t given up on 2025 yet. Hamilton has a big complaint at Ferrari and he wants it fixed.

Much like Leclerc in the other car, he cannot handle the rear instability that the SF25 gives them under braking. It has an impact on their confidence, and most importantly, their pace.

Hamilton had an ‘awful’ issue at Spa, with Martin Brundle spotting that the traction at the rear was particularly poor.

In the wet, you would expect that scenario to be exacerbated, due to the demands of driving in slippery conditions.

However, Jeroen Bleekemolen told Formule1.nl that he spotted Hamilton achieve one ‘not normal’ feat on Sunday at Spa.

“Or see the way Lewis Hamilton drove on Sunday: how incredibly fast he was in the rain, say,” he said. “Not normal. And he – or the team – also made the right choice to be the first to go in. Well done.”

Why Ferrari should be better in the second half of the 2025 Formula 1 season

Many of the tracks faced in the second half of the Formula 1 season should suit Ferrari more than the likes of Spa, for example.

With a deficit of around three tenths to McLaren at the sport’s longest track, they can be optimistic at short circuits like the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix, that they can apply pressure to their title-leading rivals.

Fred Vasseur thinks Ferrari will be ‘battling’ Max Verstappen for the rest of the campaign, which would be a step up from where they have been for most of the year.

The more positive momentum they can build now, the better shape they will be in heading into 2026, as a new dawn arrives and a fresh start gives them a new chance to end what is currently a 17-year title drought.
