Lewis Hamilton has a chance to turn things around with Ferrari with the right race engineer this season.
Lewis Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari didn’t turn out as many fans would have hoped when his signing was announced.
The seven-time world champion failed to register a single podium finish with Ferrari during the 2025 campaign despite optimism about how he could return to winning form.
Has David Coulthard nailed what’s going wrong for Lewis Hamilton?
However, Hamilton appears optimistic about Ferrari and their chances this season after a successful run in testing.
The new season offers renewed optimism for Hamilton, and some believe he is just one major move away from turning things around with Ferrari.

Fred Ferret suggests Lewis Hamilton is a race engineer away from success
In his Q&A session on L’Equipe, Fred Ferret responded to a seemingly frustrated fan who asked him what Hamilton needs to succeed with Scuderia Ferrari.
While Ferret pointed to Ferrari’s positive returns in testing, he admitted that Hamilton’s one year of experience with the team can lead to success if he hires the right race engineer.
“For Lewis Hamilton, it all depends on his car. The Ferrari seems well-designed,” he wrote. “Its engine is less powerful than the Mercedes’ but appears to offer a huge advantage at the start.
“He’s been in Maranello for a year now and has settled in. All he needs is an engineer to complete the package. A podium finish should come soon.
“As for a victory, we’ll have to see if the (Ferrari) cars have really been working hard in Bahrain,” Ferret added.
With Hamilton’s recent comments about his renewed motivation and comfort with the new car, Ferrari have every reason to back him and take his input on a new race engineer seriously.

Lewis Hamilton has chance to build more harmonious dynamic
At the time of writing, Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari have yet to make an official appointment for his new race engineer.
After Riccardo Adami was made the manager of Ferrari’s driver academy, that role was filled, at least temporarily, by Carlo Santi.
At many points during last season, there were rumours of turmoil between Adami and Hamilton, with some speculating that this turmoil led to him being moved to a different role.
Hamilton’s best chance at success with Ferrari this season is to build a better dynamic with the team to ensure harmony on all fronts. Heading into testing, there were concerns about Hamilton’s stubbornness over his driving style.
However, it appears Hamilton’s feedback has been well received by Ferrari, which could prove to be a difference-maker as the Australian GP is just around the corner.
