Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he plans to talk to a race-winning Ferrari legend at some point during his tenure at Ferrari, noting how much of a ‘great support’ he has been in the past.

Hamilton’s career at Ferrari has been a pale imitation of what was first anticipated upon the announcement that the seven-time world champion would be leaving the comfort of his Mercedes garage to join the most successful team in the history of the sport.

Barring his Sprint race victory with the Scuderia at the Chinese Grand Prix, the Brit is yet to finish within the top three in a Grand Prix whilst donning Ferrari colours amid the longest podium drought in his F1 career.

Ferrari have been surprised at the fragility of Hamilton since working with the star driver, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the 40-year-old. Michael Schumacher was also seen in a similar light at the team, and he went on to provide them with their most successful period in F1.

Lewis Hamilton plans to speak to Sebastian Vettel after not asking for advice ahead of Ferrari move

Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix earlier this season, Hamilton referred to the Ferrari careers of Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso when asked why he was being so hands-on in the development of Ferrari’s current F1 car.

In a recent interview with French sports publication L’Equipe, Hamilton fielded a question regarding Alonso and Vettel’s previous experience at Ferrari, and if he had spoken to either driver ahead of his move to the team at the start of 2025.

“Honestly, I have spoken with neither one nor the other,” Hamilton revealed. “I don’t speak much with Fernando. Seb, he has been of great support; he has really been incredible, and a very good friend over the years.

“I intended to talk to Seb during this break. I think I will do it soon. I didn’t call him this year because I am not often on my phone.

“I didn’t want to bother him, and before, I didn’t want to talk to him because I didn’t want to have preconceived ideas. With six to eight months of experience, I have a good idea of the situation, so I will probably soon talk with him.”

Vettel spent six seasons with Ferrari between 2015 and 2020, winning 14 Grands Prix and being the closest competitor to the dominance of Hamilton and Mercedes during the era.

Lewis Hamilton has been suffering from similar issues that Sebastian Vettel experienced at Ferrari

A conversation with Vettel would surely prove to be productive for the seven-time world champion due to the German driver’s extensive experience and knowledge of the inner workings at the Maranello-based racing outfit.

It was already speculated that the two had been in contact after Hamilton was found to be struggling with the same issue as Vettel during his stint as Charles Leclerc’s teammate in 2019 and 2020.

The four-time world champion reportedly suffered from trying to emulate his younger teammate by copying the set-up he used during race weekends.

After comments between Vettel and his Ferrari race engineer recently resurfaced, F1 fans were left wondering if anything at all had changed at the Prancing Horse since the German driver left the stable for Aston Martin in 2021.

Hamilton’s frustrations with his Ferrari race engineer have been evident in F1 sessions throughout the current campaign, and could be attributed to one of the reasons he has found it so difficult to adapt from the Mercedes set up.
