After securing his best-ever finish with Ferrari at the Canadian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton waxed lyrical about his team.

Hamilton’s P2 finish in Montreal came off the back of some big changes the seven-time world champion made ahead of the race with Ferrari.

For starters, Hamilton refused to use the Ferrari simulator leading into the race, finding that it didn’t have a tangible impact on his earlier races.

On top of that, Hamilton made big changes to his Ferrari engineering team, with a focus on getting the best result possible this weekend.

And given how well he performed throughout the weekend in Montreal, it’s hard to say that his decisions didn’t pay off. But Lewis Hamilton has credited an underdiscussed aspect of Ferrari for his success.

Lewis Hamilton highlights the ‘great’ Ferrari reliability Mercedes and McLaren lack

Speaking to Formula 1 TV after the Canadian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was ecstatic with his P2 finish, noting how hard he has worked to earn this result.

While he suggested the car and his engineering team played a big role, he admitted that Ferrari’s reliability to survive and finish races, compared to Mercedes and McLaren, helped them earn a brilliant result.

“Oh man, it’s the happiest day of my days at Ferrari so far. It feels great to be able to put the Ferrari on the podium, and to get my first second place with the team as well in the main race, and this is my second podium as well.

“I’m just elated and so proud of the team for working so hard. I finally have the engineering team that I’ve been working towards.

“I think our car is great. The guys did a fantastic job over the winter to get the car where it is, and I think I understand it a lot better and am much more comfortable with it.

“Whilst we’re not exactly where we want to be, to get a result like this capitalises [on]… we’ve got great reliability. This is awesome, and a big thanks to the team.”

Lewis Hamilton could use Canadian Grand Prix momentum to re-establish dominance this season

After a successful first two races this season, it is fair to say that Hamilton’s performances dropped off in Suzuka and Miami.

But with Hamilton’s incredible performance in Montreal, the British driver has clawed back some of the momentum he lost in those races.

Hamilton’s battle with and success against Max Verstappen was a key indicator of just how well he was performing, even if Ferrari’s rivals failing during the race played a part in his success.

With the momentum now on his side, Hamilton could earn his first Ferrari win in Monaco, which would help further re-establish him as a prominent figure in the championship battle this season.
