It has been a mixed start to life at Ferrari for Lewis Hamilton after issues with the car have plagued him, but that could be set to change for next season.

The seven-time world champion has yet to score a podium in the first 10 races, marking it one of the worst starts to a season in his career.

Ferrari has shown glimmers of speed at certain races this year, but since their disqualification from the Chinese Grand Prix, they have yet to recapture the pace that enabled Hamilton to secure pole and win the Sprint race.

In a bid to improve their fortunes for this season, Ferrari has fast-tracked upgrades to their car for the Austrian GP for Hamilton.

But speaking ahead of the race weekend, Hamilton admitted that the team is now looking forward to fixing one annoying part for 2026 when speaking to Speedweek.

Lewis Hamilton says Ferrari will fix ‘annoying’ understeer in 2026 car

Ferrari’s 2025 challenger has been somewhat a step backwards compared to their 2024 car, which enabled them to challenge for the Constructors’ title and win at least two races at the mid point of the year.

Hamilton has mainly complained about understeer in his Ferrari, particularly at the mid-corner point, which has caused him to struggle with traction.

The seven-time world champion says Ferrari is now working on a fix for his car, after they identified this weakness in their current package.

“Work is underway on the 2026 car so that we can prevent having the same problems again next year, such as the eradicating of the annoying understeer,” said Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton has floor upgrade for Austrian Grand Prix

Hamilton will be hoping that the new upgrades for Ferrari will help him at the Austrian GP as F1 heads into the European swing.

The upgrades include a new floor that is centred on fixing Ferrari’s current inconsistency, after Hamilton complained following the Spanish GP that the balance was the worst he’s ever experienced in an F1 car.

The new floor is effectively a precursor to a wider upgrade that is planned for the British GP, where Ferrari will debut significant tweaks to its rear suspension.

Hamilton does not expect the upgrades in Austria to change anything significantly, but if it works, it will be a step forward in what has otherwise been a disappointing year for them so far.
