Lewis Hamilton’s 11-year Mercedes tenure is set to come to an end in a matter of months, as he embarks on a new Formula 1 journey.

The Brit links up with Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season, with at least two years to achieve a record-breaking eighth world championship with the most historic of teams.

It’s a move which almost every driver dreams of, and now Hamilton gets to act it out as a possible farewell tour.

Their recent performance has been trending in the right direction, but will it be enough to see them through next season as serious title contenders?

Lewis Hamilton ‘very interested’ by Ferrari progress

His last career move was executed to perfection, timing his switch from McLaren to Mercedes wonderfully, coinciding with the Silver Arrows’ rise to dominance.

He is widely regarded as one of, if not the best to sit in a cockpit in the sport’s history, and now he gets the chance to join the team with the most heritage.

Ferrari haven’t won a championship since 2008 – the year Hamilton claimed his first title, so he has been particularly intrigued by their recent progress.

“I’m very interested by my future,” he said in the FIA’s Thursday press conference. “In that respect, keeping an eye [on Ferrari]. Watching everything that happens. Of course [I’m encouraged].

“If you look at somewhere like China, the Red Bull was like a second ahead. It’s been quite incredible to see the McLarens rise, and then the Ferrari in the last few races, to see that progress.

“Just try to keep an eye on everyone’s car and what they’re changing and what they’re adding.”

Can Hamilton win a championship with Ferrari?

Ferrari look set to battle it out for the constructors’ championship right to the end with McLaren, in a bid to end a 16-year title drought.

Hamilton isn’t joining the Scuderia to win the team’s honours though, and is searching for a record-breaking eighth crown.

He’s tied with the legendary Michael Schumacher currently, who won five of his championships with the ‘Prancing Horse’.

One of his main challenges will be to compete with new teammate Charles Leclerc, entering his seventh term with the team in 2025.

He knows them inside out, and it’s the same with the car, so adjusting to the machinery and overcoming Leclerc could be the toughest challenge of his career, regardless of how fast their next challenger turns out to be.
