Lewis Hamilton has been praised for making a ‘remarkably candid’ comment on the back of a disappointing British Grand Prix.

Heading into the weekend at Silverstone, Hamilton was looking to continue his fine form, having recently won his first race for Ferrari.

The weekend started brilliantly as Hamilton secured Sprint pole before finishing the race in second place behind Kimi Antonelli.

Having started the main race from P3, Hamilton saw teammate Charles Leclerc win the British Grand Prix as the seven-time world champion lost P2 after pitting under the safety car, with George Russell the lucky beneficiary.

What do you make of Ferrari’s call to pit Lewis Hamilton under the late safety car?

Alex Brundle says Lewis Hamilton is in a ‘better mind space’ at Ferrari

Reacting to the race, Alex Brundle spotted a difference in the way Hamilton spoke compared to last year, when he was enduring a tough first season with Ferrari.

Brundle, a former F3 and F2 racer, stated that Hamilton made a ‘remarkably candid’ admission about what went wrong, which proved to him that he has already ‘isolated the problem’ and is in a ‘better mind space’ than previously.

Brundle said on F1’s Post-Race Show: “I think the specificity of his comments there, you know, it’s not the Lewis Hamilton that we saw throughout last year, for example, saying, ‘I just don’t know what’s wrong’.

“Right, he stood in front of us and remarkably candidly gone, ‘We took too much wing out of the car,’ for example, he’s already isolated the problem, which is a way better mind space than we’ve seen in the past for Lewis.”

Following Hamilton’s victory in Barcelona last month, many felt that he would be able to challenge the Mercedes duo of Antonelli and Russell for the world title.

On the back of a P3 finish and Antonelli scoring zero points, Hamilton is now third in the world championship standings, 32 points behind the young Italian.

Speaking after the Grand Prix, Hamilton admitted that the ‘magic’ he had on Friday ‘disappeared’ during the remainder of the weekend.

The 41-year-old claimed that he was ‘lacking front end’ and placed the blame on himself and the engineering.

As reported by Sky Sports, Hamilton said: “Congrats to Charles. He did a great job. All the magic that I had on Friday just disappeared through the weekend.

“I was just lacking front end. We massively under-egged it with the front wing and that’s my fault and the engineering fault.

“We’ve got to continue to bring upgrades. Spa is going to be long straights, but ultimately, I’ve got to do a better job than I did this weekend.”
